CTOnews.com, September 19 (Xinhua)-- Apple is expanding its rich and detailed 3D mapping capabilities to two new American cities, Chicago and Las Vegas. The feature was first launched with iOS 15 in September 2021 for map users in London, Los Angeles, New York City and San Francisco.

Apple 3D maps are different from satellite 3D maps. The new 3D view shows rich elements of custom design for communities, business districts, docks, buildings, and more. Users can see the elevation details of the entire city, new road labels and hundreds of custom-designed landmarks.

The 3D map also contains road details, such as turning lanes, median, bus and taxi lanes, and crosswalks. Highways with overlapping complex junctions are presented in the road-level 3D view, making it easier for drivers to view.

3D maps include everything from iconic hotels in Las Vegas to multi-storey highway interchanges. There is also a night mode with moonlight that can be activated after dusk.

CTOnews.com learned that with Apple iOS 16, drivers can also create routes containing multiple sites and synchronize them with other Apple devices. The route will also show the cost of the journey and allow users to recharge their transport cards using the wallet app, all of which are on the map. Apple 3D Maps will soon increase support for more cities, including Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.
