CTOnews.com, September 18 (Xinhua)-- Microsoft wants Teams, a collaborative office software on platforms such as Windows 11 and Windows10, to be an ideal communication application for all professionals around the world, which means it can connect users in different languages. Microsoft recently began to offer language translation options for Teams.

"at Microsoft, we serve a wide variety of global customers, including government agencies that hold meetings in multiple languages, multinational and multilingual companies, companies that work with suppliers around the world, etc.," said Shalendra Chhabra, chief PM manager of Microsoft Teams conferences. "this feature is designed to support customers and users who need to communicate across languages in the virtual world."

According to Chhabra, once the organizer has scheduled the meeting, this option will involve inviting "professional interpreters" to the meeting, and the organizer must set the source and target languages. The language translation function will also allow the organizer to select a professional translation from the drop-down options. Please note, however, that Microsoft will not provide these translators. Instead, companies will have to hire their own interpreters, who will be added to the interpreter drop-down menu and join the meeting via desktop or Web Teams.

On the other hand, if the meeting involves translation in multiple source languages, the organizer can add more translators by selecting the "add more interpreters" option. According to Microsoft, organizations can use up to 16 different language pairs (for example, translating French into Spanish counts as a language pair). In addition, the solution that organizers can implement is to promote participants to the role of interpreters so that they can learn more about their domain terminology and language in order to better explain the meeting.

CTOnews.com learned that users can also choose the language channel they want to listen to during the meeting, and the interpreter's translation will be delivered at a higher volume than the speaker. Currently, Microsoft Teams supports channel meetings, regular meetings, webinars and meetings attended by up to 1000 people. Unfortunately, group discussion rooms are still not supported. In addition, the recording session will not include an interpreter.
