Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
An unhappy commute is like a robbery for workers.
After struggling to get out of bed, I felt a little more job burnout when I thought it would take another 20 minutes to walk to the subway station, packed like sardines in crowded carriages, and spent dozens of minutes or even more than an hour.
If you are unlucky enough not to grab a seat, you can only put up with the smell and temperature of strangers between your shoulders and elbows. when you take out your cell phone, you will be seen through privacy by people around you, and you are not even in the mood to surf and chat.
Some people have enjoyed the normal happiness of working at home, while others are still tired in the morning and evening rush hour in the subway. This time, DT Finance wants to use data to talk about commuting in terms of commuting time, commuting distance, waiting time, walking distance and transfer.
See which other cities have the least friendly commuting besides Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Welcome to the reserved seat.
What are the cities with a commute of more than one hour besides Beijing? Not long ago, the China Institute of Urban Design and Planning released the National commuter Monitoring report for Major cities in 2022. We sort out the commuting characteristics of major cities in terms of commuting time, commuting distance, commuting speed and so on.
More than 10 million people in China's major cities will experience an extreme commute of more than 60 minutes in 2021, according to the report. Among them, Beijing has the largest extreme commuting population in the country, accounting for 30% of the city's commuting for more than 60 minutes.
This was followed by Shanghai, where extreme commuting accounted for 18 per cent. The extreme commuting problems in Guangzhou and Shenzhen are relatively small, with commuting for more than 60 minutes accounting for 15% and 12% respectively.
The pressure of commuting in Beijing and Shanghai is to be expected. It is worth noting that the pressure of long commuting hours faced by migrant workers in cities such as Chongqing, Tianjin and Qingdao even exceeds that of Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
If you compare it with 2020, you will find that the proportion of commuting for more than 60 minutes in most cities has increased, and the situation of extreme commuting has become more serious.
In Beijing, the proportion of extreme commuting in Beijing has increased by 3 percentage points, and the already serious extreme commuting problem has further worsened. Then there was Guangzhou, which increased by 2 percentage points and Shanghai by 1. The proportion of extreme commuting in Shenzhen in 2021 is the same as that in 2020.
Among non-first-tier cities, the proportion of commuting for more than 60 minutes in Tianjin, Qingdao, Shenyang, Chengdu and Xi'an has increased compared with 2020. Chongqing, Wuhan, Nanjing, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Zhengzhou and other cities are the same as in 2020.
For workers in these cities, the farthest commuting distance is not enough to see the specific situation of a city's commuting. We combine the average commuting time and commuting distance to do further analysis.
According to the 2022 commuting Monitoring report in China's Major cities, Beijing, which has the most serious extreme commuting problems, also has the longest average commuting time and one-way commuting distance, with an average commuting time of 48 minutes and an average commuting distance of 11.3 kilometers.
The commute was closely followed by Shanghai and Chongqing, with an one-way commute of 40 minutes and 39 minutes in Guangzhou, Chengdu, Tianjin and Qingdao. In terms of commuting distance, Shanghai, Chongqing and Chengdu are second only to Beijing, with an average one-way commuting distance of 9.5 km, followed by Guangzhou's 9.1 km.
As a member of a first-tier city, Shenzhen is already friendly in terms of commuting distances and hours. The average distance of the last shift was 8km, which takes about 36 minutes.
If we divide the commuting distance by the commuting time, we find that among the 14 major cities surveyed, Zhengzhou has the fastest one-way average commuting speed, followed by Xi'an, Chengdu, Nanjing, Shanghai and Chongqing.
The commuting speed in Beijing is not slow, reaching 14.1 km / h. The commuting speed is slower than Shanghai's 14.3 km / h, but faster than Guangzhou (14 km / h) and Shenzhen (13.3 km / h).
One of the important reasons for the longest commuting time and distance in Beijing is that the problem of "separation of work and residence" is too serious.
There is a high degree of separation between work and residence, which simply means that the distance between office and residence is so far that a trip to the company takes more than half of the city, causing office workers to spend a lot of time commuting.
According to data from November last year, the number of commuters around Beijing has reached 920000. There are not a few people who live in Tongzhou and work in Xier Banner, not to mention those migrant workers who live in Yanjiao, Hebei Province and go to work across provinces every day.
Data show that among China's major cities in 2021, Beijing has the highest degree of separation between work and residence, reaching 6.6 km. Shanghai and Guangzhou, both first-tier cities, are only 3.9km and 3.8km respectively, while Shenzhen is even lower, only 2.5km.
It is worth noting that although the separation of work and residence in Qingdao, Chengdu, Zhengzhou, Xi'an and Chongqing is lower than that in Beijing, it is higher than that in other cities such as Shanghai. It seems that in these places, there is also a long way to go to achieve the freedom of commuting.
In addition to the time and distance, there are many factors that affect the quality of a commute in the city where walking is the most tiring. With reference to the 2022 Q2 Traffic Analysis report of China's Major cities released by Amap, we analyze urban commuting from the dimensions of waiting time, walking distance and transfer times.
The report shows that among the four cities in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, the average waiting time for ground buses is 13.1 minutes in Shanghai, 10.6 minutes in Guangzhou, 9.5 minutes in Beijing and 8.8 minutes in Shenzhen.
The underground traffic extending in all directions in big cities has alleviated the flow of ground public transportation to some extent, but migrant workers in other cities may not have so many options. Among the 19 cities studied, most of the cities with the longest average waiting time for ground bus are second-and third-tier cities, such as Shaoxing, Kunming, Tianjin and Changsha, with an average waiting time of more than 15 minutes.
When the morning and evening rush hour in big cities is daunting, second-and third-tier cities also face the problem of long waiting time for the bus.
When discussing commuting time, walking distance is easy to be ignored.
However, according to the survey report on the housing and commuting of 2021 workers by the big data Research Institute, more than 1/3 of the respondents most wanted to complain that their residence was "too far from the subway station and had to walk for more than 20 minutes to get to the subway". It exceeds the proportion of a series of troughs such as "the room is too small", the environment is noisy, the roommate is too many, and the landlord is bad.
A proper commuter walking distance will increase commuter happiness, but the reality is not optimistic. According to the Traffic Analysis report of Q2 China's Major cities in 2022, the walking distance of public transport in major cities across the country is more than 800m, and even more than 1000 meters in Tianjin, Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing and other cities.
"from home to the office in half an hour, only need to take three stations of the subway, the rest of the time to walk. From home to the subway station, and then from the subway station to the office, walking every day is very tired, commuting happiness is really out of the question." Xiao Zhao, who works in Shanghai, told DT Finance.
With a straight distance of 500 meters, it takes half an hour to walk around. No wonder some netizens said that "before you are tired to death by work, you may be tired to death on the way to and from work."
Finally, as important as walking distance is the number of commuting transfers.
On the through bus, commuters have at least a whole part of time to spare, rest and play with their mobile phones. Once you need to transfer, it's time to test your leg speed, not only to squeeze into another bus with other commuters, but also to keep an eye on the station in case you miss the stop or get on the wrong bus. Not to mention the pain of having finally occupied the seat and having to let it out soon.
According to the 2022 Q2 Traffic Analysis report of China's Major cities, Harbin performed best in commuting transfers, with 69% of respondents saying they could take direct public transport to work. More than 1/5 of friends in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou said they had to transfer to public transport for two or more times when commuting.
Although the average number of commuter transfers in major cities across the country is on the rise, Beijing, which is furthest from commuting freedom, increased the proportion of direct public transport from 40% to 42% from 2021 to the second quarter of 2022, taking another small step towards commuting happiness.
Written at the end of the commute as an unspeakable pain, it afflicts the minds of migrant workers in the morning and evening of every working day.
Many studies have shown that long commutes not only increase an individual's risk of stress and depression, but also reduce sleep by 28% 35%. In addition, a long commute will make it easier for individuals to develop a sedentary lifestyle. A physical monitoring of Japanese white-collar workers found that people who commuted for more than 90 minutes were more likely to be obese.
No one wants to take the capital of the body in exchange for meaningless travel. However, the difficulty of commuting seems to be an inevitable problem for urban migrant workers.
For ordinary people, they can only provide themselves with a more comfortable life with limited ability. Find a way to reward yourself in the meaning of life and the tiredness that emerges from time to time
Either spend ruthlessly on renting a house close to the company to achieve the freedom of commuting, or use your commuting time to save money on renting and get satisfaction in your savings, or try to make yourself as happy as possible by having a good meal after work.
