CTOnews.com, September 17, according to a report in Taiwan's Economic Daily, Huang Chong-Jen, chairman of LSMC, revealed yesterday that he had discussed business opportunities for automotive semiconductors with TSMC president Wei Zhe-jia, and the two agreed that only a small number of automotive semiconductors adopt advanced processes, and most, or about 80%, are still mature processes, so "everyone has opportunities" and will bring more business opportunities than mobile phones.

According to reports, Wei Zhe Jia once analyzed that about 80% of the automotive semiconductors adopt a mature process of more than 28 nm, and only 20% adopt an advanced process of less than 14 nm.

CTOnews.com learned that when talking about the role of semiconductors in the automotive industry, Huang Chongren analyzed that in the past, in traditional car factories such as BMW, Volkswagen, and Toyota, the cost of chips needed for a car was about US $500 to US $600, which can be said to be negligible in the automobile supply chain. Even Renesa, a major Japanese automotive MCU company, once said that chip prices were often suppressed by Toyota and other large car manufacturers.

Huang Chongren believes that since Tesla, electric vehicles have adopted modular design, which does not require so long to test the reliability of chips, thus bringing about revolutionary changes and major changes in the role of semiconductors in automotive electronics. In the future, there will be more and more applications of automobiles in AI and automation.
