Now if the computer is dormant or locked, even if you open the Office app, the update on lock feature will close the application in full security, update it, and then restore the application to its previous state. Microsoft claims that the whole process takes about four seconds, which means there will be no disruption to the workflow.

The update-on-lock feature is based on Microsoft's "Click-to-Run" technology, which is used to provide updates to software such as Office.

It is worth noting that update under lock does not provide control to enterprise IT administrators like other features, which means that this feature is automatically turned on and cannot be turned off. At the same time, if Office detects that the software cannot be safely shut down, it will not be forced to shut down to update, so as to address users' concerns about the loss of file contents.
