CTOnews.com, September 17 (Xinhua)-- the first beta version of iOS 16.1, released to developers and public testers earlier this week, provides Reachability support for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max Mobile Island, making new pill-like areas easier to reach with one hand.

The Reachability, or one-handed mode, is designed to make large-screen phones easier to operate with one hand, lowering the upper half of the screen so that it is within reach of your fingers. On iPhone in the past, one-handed mode allowed users to double-click the Home key to lower the top of the screen. Now there is no Home key, so the new way to trigger one-handed mode is to slide down from the bottom of the screen. This feature can be enabled in the accessibility function → Touch → Reachability in the setup application.

CTOnews.com learned that in earlier versions of iOS 16, Smart Island did not support Reachability mode, and it was still at the top of the screen when the rest of the top half of the screen was lowered, but it has supported Reachability mode since the release of iOS 16.1 Beta 1.

Smart Island brings users a new way to interact with iPhone, blurring the boundaries between hardware and software, and real-time changes to show important reminders, notifications, and activities. With the launch of Smart Island, the original camera has been redesigned to reduce the display space occupied.
