Today, Counterpoint analyst Neil Shah said on the social platform that, as Counterpoint had predicted, global 5G phone shipments reached 49.9% in the second quarter of 2022, successfully surpassing 49.7% of 4G phones (0.4% of 3G phone shipments), a change that shows that consumers are phasing out old devices and opting for 5G phones.

According to public data, in January 2016, China's 5G technology R & D trial was officially launched and implemented in 2016-2018, which is divided into three stages: 5G key technology test, 5G technology scheme verification and 5G system verification. On December 21, 2017, at the 78th plenary meeting of the International Telecommunication Standards Organization (3GPP RAN), the first version of 5G NR was officially frozen and released. In 2021, 5G mobile phone shipments in China reached 266 million units, an increase of 63.5% over the same period last year, accounting for 75.9% of mobile phone shipments in the same period, far higher than the global average of 40.7%.
