Wang Jianzhou, former chairman of China Mobile Communications Group, said at the forum today that when 5G first appeared, some international telecom operators used millimeter wave to start 5G network construction, which led to its small coverage, high construction cost and slow development of 5G industry. At the beginning of construction, our country adopted the frequency of middle and low frequency band, which makes our 5G construction in the leading position. At present, the use of low and medium frequency bands to build 5G network has become the international mainstream.

Wang Jianzhou said that the network is the foundation of the digital economy, and it is very important to build a high-quality, full-coverage network. For spectrum resources, at this year's World Mobile Congress, industry insiders began to discuss the use of 600MHz frequencies to build 5G networks. In this regard, Wang Jianzhou said: "I am not opposed to the use of millimeter wave in 5G, especially in hot spots where the amount of data is particularly concentrated and in enterprise networks, millimeter wave can play a very good role. In addition, we also need to accumulate experience in using millimeter waves for 6G, so millimeter waves also need to be developed."

According to previous CTOnews.com reports, Xu Bo, deputy director of the Radio Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said on August 19 that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology would issue a plan for the use of 5G millimeter wave frequency in stages based on the current situation of the industry.

Public data show that millimeter wave has the advantages of rich spectrum and small time delay. Specifically, millimeter wave can provide higher user experience rate, meet the business needs of public network and industry users with high capacity concurrency, and further improve the capacity of 5G network.
