There is not enough space for the shortage of resources, so it is difficult for Musk to get Tesla's employees back to work.

Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

Beijing, September 15 (Xinhua) this spring, Musk formulated a strict "back to the office" policy for Tesla. On May 31, he sent an email telling employees that he should work at least 40 hours a week in the office.

More than three months later, Tesla still does not have enough rooms and resources for all employees to return to the office, according to people familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Before the outbreak of COVID-19, some employees were able to telecommute because of their need, but now they are affected by the return policy and their morale has been hit.

Before the pandemic, Tesla was open to telecommuting. The number of Tesla employees has grown rapidly in recent years, and the company's focus is on establishing an international center and building a new factory in Texas. In both Nevada and California, Tesla does not have enough office space and equipment to get all office workers and long-term contractors to return to the office and work at least 40 hours a week.

Tesla now wants San Francisco Bay area employees to go back to the office at least three days a week, but the company is short of chairs, tables, parking and other resources, which is still difficult to meet. In desperation, Tesla can only stagger office hours and let employees go back to the office two days a week.

What is even more ridiculous is that Tesla is even short of adapters and charging lines. When many employees go back to the office, they are so crowded that they can only make phone calls outside because there are not enough conference rooms and telephone booths in Tesla's office area.

According to data from early September, about 1/8 of employees in Fremont, Calif., are out of the office on an average day, compared with about 1/10 for Tesla as a whole.
