CTOnews.com, September 14 (Xinhua)-- Qualcomm may plan to announce new chips during its annual Snapdragon summit, but not until November, and the launch of the new product will be delayed, which means that Microsoft Surface Pro 9 will not be equipped with the latest hardware. It has been revealed that Surface Pro 9 will use a custom-built SQ3 chip based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3.

It was previously reported that Microsoft would eventually merge its Surface Pro series, indicating that Surface Pro 9 will be available in both ARM and Intel-based versions.

According to Rich 'Rose Gold' Woods on Twitter, Surface Pro 9 will use Microsoft SQ3 chip, which the software giant will develop in partnership with Qualcomm, which will be customized based on Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3. The CPU and GPU clock rates of Microsoft SQ3 chips may be slightly different, but beyond that, SoC will have most of the similarities with Qualcomm chips.

In terms of performance, Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 did well, but it failed to beat Apple M1, let alone M2, and Qualcomm will develop custom chips to fight Apple through its acquisition of Nuvia. In addition, Microsoft Surface Pro 9 will receive stylus support and all the advantages of ARM-based chips, such as long battery life and 5G network support.

CTOnews.com has been informed that Intel-based versions may be equipped with generation 12 processors for laptops, so the performance and efficiency of the two Surface Pro 9 models will be different. Microsoft is likely to announce a new Surface lineup in October.
