CTOnews.com, September 14 (Xinhua)-- Apple recently shared a video explaining how to use the new car accident detection feature enabled by default on all iPhone 14 series models, Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch Ultra and Apple Watch SE 2 after the fall launch.

In a new support document released by Apple, Apple said the car accident detection feature is designed to detect serious accidents, such as cars, minivans, SUV, pick-up trucks and other passenger cars. Apple warned that the feature could not detect all car accidents.

Apple said that if a serious car accident is detected, users will be able to interact with Apple Watch when wearing Apple Watch. Otherwise, the user will interact with iPhone.

According to Apple, when a serious car accident is detected, a supported iPhone or Apple Watch will display a warning and issue an alarm. If users have the ability, they can call the emergency service by swiping the emergency call slider on iPhone or Apple Watch, or turn off the alarm. If they do not respond to the alarm after 10 seconds, the device starts another 10-second countdown. If they still do not respond, the device calls the emergency service.

CTOnews.com learned that the car accident detection feature uses sensors such as accelerometers and gyroscopes on the supported iPhone or Apple Watch. Apple said the feature also relies on "advanced motion algorithms designed by Apple, after more than 1 million hours of real driving and collision recording data training" to improve accuracy.
