The main channel of the Zhanjiang Bay Cross-Harbour Tunnel is 195 meters long, which is the most important maritime transport line in the sea area of Zhanjiang Bay. The maximum water depth is 20.8 meters, the lowest point is 16.7 meters, and the maximum water pressure is 6 bar, which is equivalent to bearing a pressure of 6 kilograms on an area the size of a nail cover. The construction is very difficult and risky.

Zhanjiang Bay Cross Harbour Tunnel is a single-hole and double-track project, in which the shield section is 7551 meters, the shield excavation diameter is 14.33m, and the outer diameter of the segment is 13.8m. It is the longest sea-crossing high-speed railway shield tunnel in China. At present, the "Yongxing" shield machine has accumulated a footage of 2770 meters, assembled 1385 rings, entered the sea section of more than 1300 meters, successfully passed through the deepest part of Zhanjiang Bay, and is expected to complete the overall excavation construction task of the sea section by the end of the year. The Zhanjiang Bay Cross Harbour Tunnel on the Guangzhan high-speed railway is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

CTOnews.com learned that the Guangzhan high-speed rail line, which is about 401km long, starts from Guangzhou Railway Station, passes through Foshan, Zhaoqing, Yunfu, Yangjiang, Maoming and Zhanjiang, and ends with Zhanjiang North Railway Station and Zhanjiang Hub in the west, with an estimated investment of 99.8 billion and a design speed of 350km per hour, making it the longest and largest high-speed rail project in Guangdong Province. After the completion of the Guangzhan high-speed railway, the central city of Guangzhou will be accessible to Zhanjiang in 90 minutes.
