CTOnews.com Sept. 14, Apple yesterday released the official version of iOS 16, the latest version of iOS, with new customizable lock screens, improved messaging features, email, maps and other enhancements.

Get rid of repetitive photos: iOS 16 photos App lets users know if there are multiple identical photos in iPhone, and can delete additional photos to save space. Duplicate photos will be listed in the new "repeat" album.

AirPods update: it is easier to manage AirPods settings in iOS 16, and a dedicated options section appears in setting up App when you connect to AirPods. IOS 16 also adds a personalized spatial audio feature that scans users' ears with the original deep camera, providing a unique listening experience tailored for users.

Face ID in landscape mode: iPhone running iOS 16 already supports Face ID in landscape mode, making it easier to unlock the phone when the iPhone is not held in the standard portrait direction. This feature is limited to iPhone 13 and later.

Protect hidden and deleted photos: in iOS 16, users need to use Face ID or Touch ID for authentication before they can access hidden and recently deleted albums. If someone accesses your phone without unlocking it, iPhone will lock these albums.

WiFi password: if you have ever been frustrated by not being able to access the network WiFi password you are using, this will change in iOS 16. In iPhone's WiFi settings, the user can finally see the network password for the connection.

Keyboard tactile feedback: there is a keyboard setting in iOS 16 that allows users to enable tactile feedback while typing. Each keystroke will vibrate, providing the user with a physical confirmation that a letter has been clicked.

Copy and delete screenshots: when users take screenshots on iOS, they can now "copy and delete" in addition to saving screenshots to "photos", saving as quick notes and saving to files. The new option saves screenshots to the clipboard, making it easier to use disposable screenshots without saving them to the device for cleaning.

The ability to remove "Find My", "clock" and "health": starting with iOS 14, Apple allows users to uninstall some of the App preinstalled on the iPhone. More uninstallable App is available in iOS 16, including "Find My", "clock" and "health". Users can also re-download deleted App from App Store.

Built-in currency conversion: iOS 16 has a built-in currency conversion function in cameras and "photos" applications. Simply aim your iPhone camera at the price tag, wait for the real-time text icon to appear, click and hold the price, and then select convert.

Check the battery percentage: in iOS 16, Apple allows users to display the battery percentage of the iPhone directly in the status bar within the battery icon, but the battery percentage is not available on all iPhone.

Hang up using Siri: a new setting in iOS 16 allows users to hang up an in-progress call using Siri. Go to Settings > accessibility > Siri and activate the call hang up, and the user can say "Hey Siri, hang up" to end the ongoing call. Note that other people on the phone will hear your request for Siri before hanging up.

Prevent calls from hanging up unexpectedly: users on iOS 16 can now disable the side button to end the call. In previous versions of iOS, pressing the side button and locking iPhone during a call ended the call immediately. In iOS 16, Apple allows users to disable this feature by going to Settings > accessibility > Touch and turning on prevent locking to end calls.

Sorting options for playlists: in Apple Music on iOS 16, users can now sort playlists by title, artist, album, and release date. When viewing the playlist, press the three points in the upper-right corner to find new sorting options.

Full-screen music player: one of the major but perhaps little-known features of iOS 16 is that Apple will bring back a full-screen locked music player. When listening to songs from Apple Music, Spotify or other third-party music App, press to lock the album cover on the screen in "playing" to get a whole new look of the player. Click on the full-screen album cover to minimize "playing".

Spatial audio designed for users: with the latest AirPods and some Beats headphones, iOS 16 users can activate personalized spatial audio. This feature supports LiDAR scanners on iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro to scan the shape of the user's ear to provide a better spatial audio experience.

New warning when charging: on iOS 16, if the user's iPhone gets hot, the phone will receive a new notification informing the user that charging will be suspended until the iPhone temperature drops. This is done to prevent possible long-term damage to the iPhone battery.
