Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
On the morning of September 13, Beijing time, it is reported that Google has a technical team responsible for developing software for high-speed communication networks from ground to space.
The team's internal code name is Minkowski. Google officially unveiled the secret project on Monday and split it into a company called Aalyria.
Google declined to provide details about Aalyria, such as how long it has been developing related technologies and how many employees will join the startup. Aalyria said in a press release that its mission is to manage "ultra-high-speed, ultra-safe and ultra-complex communication networks covering land, sea, sky, near-Earth space and outer space."
Aalyria says it has laser communication technology that is "much larger and faster than existing technology". Several of Google's aerospace network projects use Aalyria's software platform.
The break-up comes as Alphabet, Google's parent company, is considering advancing or abandoning some experimental projects in response to a slowdown in advertising spending. This partly means seeking external financial support for some of the projects that have been incubated for many years.
Verily, a life science company owned by Alphabet, and Waymo, a driverless car maker, have raised money from outside investors, while Alphabet has shut down Makani, a maker of kites for power generation, and Loon, a balloon Internet company.
Security expert Chris Taylor (Chris Taylor) will serve as CEO for Aalyria. Taylor's LinkedIn profile shows that he is currently the CEO of a company he secretly founded last November.
Alphabet itself has been pursuing more contracts with the government, and they set up Google Public sector earlier this year. The new subsidiary works with the U. S. government mainly through Google Cloud.
Aalyria's advisory committee includes a number of former Google employees and executives, such as Vint Cerf, Google's chief Internet evangelist and "father of the Internet".
Google will still have a minority stake in Aalyria, but they declined to disclose the percentage or the amount of external financing. Google said earlier this year that it had transferred intellectual property, patents and physical assets, including offices, to Aalyria for nearly a decade.
Aalyria's light laser technology, known as "Tightbeam", claims to be able to adapt to a variety of weather when propagating in the atmosphere, maintain data integrity, and provide Internet access signals without supporting infrastructure.
"Tightbeam has significantly improved satellite communications, airborne and shipborne Wi-Fi, and ubiquitous cellular networks," the company said.
