Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Heather MacDougall, the head of US e-commerce giant Amazon in charge of workplace health and safety, is reported to be leaving the company next month.
Confirming her departure in 2019, Ms. McDaojia left the National Occupational Safety and Health Review Committee (a government agency) to join Amazon. On Monday, John Felton, Amazon's top executive in charge of day-to-day operations, sent a memo to all employees informing Mr. McDogia that he would leave Amazon on October 7.
Felton said that over the past three years, Mak Daojia has been involved in building the company as an important member of management, but she has now decided to seek career opportunities outside Amazon. "I want to thank her for her many contributions." and wish her every success in the next part of her career journey. "
An Amazon spokesman also confirmed McDaojia's departure to the press.
Faced with criticism during an extraordinary period of the past few years, McDaojia was responsible for the health and labor safety of Amazon's more than 1.5 million employees worldwide. In early 2020, the COVID-19 epidemic began to spread around the world, and many businesses and offices began to close, but Amazon's logistics warehouses and couriers continued to work due to a sharp rise in consumer demand for online shopping.
However, many Amazon employees also criticized the company's COVID-19 epidemic response, saying that the health and safety of employees were not adequately protected. In addition, due to the high injury rate of warehouse system workers, Amazon also faces audit and investigation from all parties.
In the past, Amazon employees, US labor groups and members of Congress have repeatedly criticized Amazon, saying that the speed of the business is higher than that of employees' safety, resulting in a generally higher rate of work injuries than their peers. Recently, Amazon has set off a wave of joining trade unions in logistics warehouses in the United States, one of the important reasons is that the labor safety of employees has not been given enough attention.
Amazon has also refuted claims that the workplace is unsafe. Under McDogart, Amazon reportedly set ambitious targets to significantly reduce the work-related injury rate, including a "recordable work-related injury rate" by 2025, an industrial injury index set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor. It covers injuries and diseases by half. Last year, Amazon added an item to its corporate values to be the "best employer in the world", but in fact, labor disputes within Amazon continue to worsen.
Prior to joining Amazon, McDaojia served as two heads of the National Occupational Safety and Health Review Committee. The committee, which belongs to the federal government, reviews health and safety conditions in the workplace of American companies and resolves disputes between employers and the Department of Labor.
During his tenure at Amazon, McDaojia established contacts with labor safety organizations in the United States, hoping to wash away Amazon's public image. Last June, Amazon signed an agreement with the National Security Council to reduce sprains, high stress at work and other anomalies among Amazon warehouse workers.
Becky Gansert, Amazon's vice president of global delivery of special goods, will take over from McDoga when his successor leaves, responsible for the health and safety of his global employees.
In the future, Gunster will also be in charge of Amazon's learning and development teams whose internal mission is to improve the daily work experience of Amazon warehouse workers and couriers.
Fayton, an Amazon executive, said in the memo that production safety and the work experience of employees are Amazon's top priorities, and that there is a close relationship between these two aspects, and Gunster has unique qualifications that will lead Amazon to make progress in both areas.
