CTOnews.com, September 13, according to Apple's official press release, Apple will introduce a "clean energy charging" option for iPhone users in the United States in an update after iOS 16.

Apple's goal is to reduce iPhone carbon emissions by charging clean energy and optimizing the charging time of clean energy in the grid. This is also the first time Apple has mentioned clean energy charging.

According to 9To5Mac, iOS 16 has a new daemon (processes running in the background) that collects carbon emissions data from local load balancers such as EIA in the United States based on the location of the device. IOS then downloads carbon emissions forecasts from the server. Combined with all this data, the system can control when clean energy charging starts.

As a result, iOS 16 will wait to recharge the iPhone when the grid is less restricted and there is more clean energy capacity available. Due to the recent high pressure on the power grid in places such as Texas and California, this function seems to come at an opportune time.

In addition, there are a number of other features in the official version of iOS 16 that are not available yet and will be provided in future updates, including iCloud shared Photo Gallery, real-time events and support for the Matter smart home standard.

CTOnews.com learned that Apple no longer comes with a charging head since iPhone 12 and has announced a series of environmental initiatives aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
