CTOnews.com, September 12, according to Reuters, sources revealed on Monday that Alphabet Google is considering moving some production of Pixel phones to India because of the blockade of the COVID-19 epidemic in China and the impact of the regional situation.

Alphabet did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters and Google has solicited bids from Indian manufacturers to produce 500000-1m Pixel smartphones, equivalent to 10-20 per cent of the device's estimated annual production.

Google CEO Sandal Pichai previewed plans for manufacturing in India earlier this year, but has not yet made a final decision, the report added. If approved, India's production business will still need to import parts from China.

Alphabet is also considering Vietnam as another manufacturing base, according to the Nikkei News.

Apple, the company's main smartphone competitor, has produced at least four iPhone 13 models in India through contract partners Foxconn and Wizuang Capital. Apple is also reportedly considering producing the iPhone 14 series in India.

Earlier this year, global supply chains were partially disrupted by a surge in COVID-19 cases and blockades in cities such as Shanghai.

CTOnews.com learned that Google will launch a new Pixel phone model and its first Pixel Watch smartwatch at an event in the United States on October 6.
