On September 12, Apple unveiled hardware and related software products such as iPhone 14, Apple Watch Ultra and the new AirPods at its fall launch, but the most important theme of the day was to focus on improving user loyalty and bringing people more into the company's ecosystem.

Most of the major improvements to Apple's products were leaked in advance at this year's launch, but Dynamic Island on iPhone 14 Pro gave people a lot of surprises. For years, iPhone's bangs have been criticized as the "ugliest part", but Smart Island has turned it into an impressive integration feature.

The enhancements of iPhone 14 Pro are in sharp contrast to the standard version of iPhone 14, which has essentially the same specifications as iPhone 13. IPhone 14 follows the same strategy of iPhone XS in 2018: there is little reason to upgrade except for the iPhone 14 Plus model with a larger screen.

Mark Gurman, an Apple analyst, said it was fair to say that the standard iPhone 14 was the most unimpressive update in the product's history and that Apple did not even equip the model with the latest chip, which was never possible in the past.

At the same time, the second-generation headset AirPods Pro fulfills many of the long-standing aspirations of users: enhanced noise cancellation, improved bass and sound effects, better shielding from background noise, longer battery life, and finally the ability to control playback and volume by sliding the headphone handle.

For consumers who are new to AirPods, the latest AirPods Pro seems to be a good choice. If you bought the first AirPods Pro in October 2019, now may also be the best time to upgrade, especially if battery life is reduced.

If there's anything wrong with AirPods, it's that they don't support Apple's new lossless audio features. According to the company, the technology allows music that is "almost no different from the original studio recording". This feature is not supported on any previous AirPods model, and the new AirPods Pro may change that.

The key to bringing lossless audio to AirPods is Bluetooth, which requires sufficient power to transmit higher quality audio. However, Apple is always looking for solutions internally, such as the introduction of an alternative feature for Bluetooth, which will eventually be used on the AirPods.

Then there is Apple's smartwatch Apple Watch. Goolman pointed out months ago that Apple is making the most extensive improvements to the product since its launch in 2015. Apple launched three different models for the first time, including the new low-end Apple Watch SE, the standard Apple Watch Series 8 and the high-end Apple Watch Ultra.

For the new Apple Watch SE, Apple has developed different production processes to make the back of the device cheaper, prompting it to cut its price by $30. It now sells for $249, compared with $279. With the discontinued production of the $199 Apple Watch Series 3, this is a necessary move. But if someone starts using Apple Watch SE in 2020, Gurman doesn't see the need to upgrade because of a faster processor.

There are no major updates to Apple Watch Series 8 either. The model does add a temperature sensor that is good for women's health and may benefit millions of people, but there are no major changes in design and no additional health sensors. such as blood pressure monitors, faster processors, better speakers or longer battery life.

On the other hand, the Apple Watch Ultra is one of Apple's most impressive hardware in recent years. Its programmable side buttons, huge display and long battery life will attract anyone who wants the best Apple Watch, not just target groups such as divers or marathoners.

With that in mind, Gurman is not sure whether Apple should focus on marketing only to extreme athletes. Instead, Apple can emphasize the appeal of these features to non-athletes and release more wristbands suitable for daily use. For example, if you upgrade a titanium wristband, it may make it more attractive.

But even if the Apple Watch Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro are worth upgrading, the biggest focus at this year's event is to make it as difficult as possible to leave Apple's ecosystem, which goes beyond the scope of the company's products to work together. Apple is increasingly touting the iPhone and Apple Watch as life-saving devices. The Apple Watch already has the ability to detect heart problems or severe falls. Now, the company is launching car accident warning and emergency satellite services.

In the coming months and years, Apple's marketing department is sure to imprint on people's minds the idea that Apple products can save lives. This will give many consumers a clear impression that giving up iPhone or Apple Watch is irresponsible for their lives.

Of course, Apple competitors such as Samsung Electronics also have their own security features. Companies such as T-Mobile US are trying to open up satellite connectivity to all mobile phone users, not just iPhone users. However, Apple seems to be making its products and services look the safest. Other improvements, such as switching to virtual eSIM cards in the United States, may make it more difficult for people to leave iPhone.

In recent years, locking users in Apple's ecosystem has become a priority for the company. Today, the good coordination of Apple's products gives it a competitive advantage than ever before, and is the key to expanding the number of users, generating more recurring revenue and preventing users from switching to rival platforms.

At the recent Coed conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook was asked why iPhone did not adopt RCS, the rich media communications service, a solution spearheaded by Google to replace standard text messages. "I don't hear calls from users for us to put a lot of energy into this," Cook responded. "if someone wants to communicate more seamlessly with their mother, I suggest buying her an iPhone."
