CTOnews.com, Sept. 11 (Xinhua)-- Samsung has been subject to a proposed federal class action lawsuit over recent data breaches, Bloomberg reported. Unauthorized third parties managed to access and steal customer information, including name, birthday, contact information and product registration information, from the company's US system.

Samsung said it discovered the hacker attack on August 4, but users said they did not notify affected consumers until a month later.

The lawsuit filed by the affected users in the Nevada District Court alleges that Samsung failed to report the incident to the affected customers in a timely manner, thus neglecting its duties as a collector of personal information. More than 3000 users were affected by the leak.

While Samsung is trying to resolve the incident, it may be too late and could eventually face a class action lawsuit for failing to act in time.

CTOnews.com learned that this is not the first time Samsung has been the target of a cyber attack. In March last year, a hacker group leaked a large amount of Samsung data, including Samsung's confidential source code. Samsung said the leak involved some source code related to the operation of Galaxy devices, but did not include personal information about consumers or employees.
