Apple said the new iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max support dual-band GPS positioning to track users' current location more accurately, which is the same as the new Apple Watch Ultra, but unfortunately not in the regular version.

CTOnews.com learned that, like the Apple Watch Ultra, the Apple iPhone 14 Pro can receive signals from GPS satellites in both L1 and L5 bands.

Compared with the traditional L1 signal, L5 satellite signal is more advanced, higher power, and can better penetrate obstacles such as buildings and trees. Thanks to the support of dual-band GPS, the positioning accuracy of iPhone 14 Pro in applications such as maps will be improved.

According to public information, as of June this year, there were 17 L5 satellites in orbit. The US said that, combined with the L1, the L5 would "provide the most advanced civilian GPS signals to users around the world". However, although the L5 was launched in 2010, the government said the signal was still in a "pre-operational" state.

L5 is now widely available and is expected to be fully available by 2024 (24 satellites).

According to the technical specifications written on Apple's official website, the four iPhone 14 support global GNSS navigation systems, including GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS and Beidou satellite navigation system, but the ordinary iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus do not support dual-band positioning technology.
