Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
On September 10, after more than half a year of investigation into Tesla's driver-assisted driving system, KBA, the German highway traffic safety regulator, found that the software was "abnormal". The agency has ordered Tesla to make improvements and limit some of the auxiliary driving functions.
It is not clear what the so-called "exception" means, what changes have taken place in Tesla's aerial update (OTA), or how many vehicles have been affected. So far, KBA has not responded to these questions.
However, the first thing KBA may investigate is the automatic lane-changing function, which does not comply with European law. The agency forced Tesla to restrict the function and required drivers to always use turn signals.
At the same time, KBA is also investigating Tesla's practice of selecting owners of fully autonomous driving (FSD) software to test cars based on safety scores. "the vehicle must be safe enough for all drivers to drive," the agency said. " Currently, FSD is not available in Europe.
In an interview, he said he wanted to know what changes Tesla had made before deploying the updates. "if we don't receive any information, we can't rule out the possibility that the system doesn't comply with the rules."
A spokesman for KBA confirmed that the above "abnormal" situation had been partially fixed by restricting automatic lane-changing updates. However, "further remedial measures are still being tested and verified". The agency did not give details or a timetable for repairs.
If "exception" is a security hazard, why didn't KBA warn the customer? If they are not dangerous, why did the German safety regulator ask Tesla to improve Autopilot? What must be changed? What else does Tesla need to adjust? Do these improvements only affect Tesla, which is sold in Germany, Europe or around the world? None of these questions have been answered.
In fact, Tesla's driver-assisted driving system is not exactly the same in different regions. This is partly because Tesla has his own improvement plan, which relies on data from on-road convoys to improve driving aids, many of which come from North America, especially California.
This causes the system to perform better in some places than in others. But regulations also prevent Tesla from deploying his driving assistance in some markets, including Europe.
