CTOnews.com, Sept. 9, is it possible that you can't use an Apple iPhone outdoors because it's too dark in the bright sun? For users upgrading to Apple's latest high-end models, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max can be brighter when used outdoors in the sun, thanks to more advanced displays.

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are equipped with Super Retina XDR displays, which Apple calls "the most advanced display of all smartphones". When used in outdoor sunlight, the peak brightness of the new display is 2000 nits, twice the peak brightness of the previous model.

When watching HDR photos, videos and movies, the peak brightness of the new display can reach 1600 nits, which is higher than that of the old iPhone. With a brightness of 1600 nits, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max can now offer the same brightness level as the high-end $4999 Pro Display XDR when viewing HDR content, according to Apple.

Apple is able to provide these higher brightness thanks to the more advanced OLED panel and the new display engine in the A16 bionic chip, which supports functions such as smart island, AOD message screen display and 120Hz variable refresh rate.

CTOnews.com learned that the resolution of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max displays changed little compared to their predecessors. For example, iPhone 14 Pro Max has a resolution of 2796 x 1 Pro Max 290, while iPhone 13 has a resolution of 2778 x 1284. The resolution of iPhone 14 Pro is slightly improved to 2556 x 1 Pro 179, while that of iPhone 13 Pro is 2532 x 1170.

According to Apple, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are made of exquisite surgical grade stainless steel and matte glass with excellent texture, offering a total of four amazing color matches. Available in 6.1in and 6.7in sizes, both models feature a new super-retinal XDR display that supports ProMotion technology, which enables all-weather display on the iPhone for the first time with a new 1Hz refresh rate and a number of energy-saving technologies. This makes the new lock screen more practical, with time, widgets, and real-time activities always clear at a glance. This advanced display also brings the same HDR peak brightness as the Pro Display XDR display and is by far the highest outdoor peak brightness of the iPhone: up to 2000 nits, twice as much as the iPhone 13 Pro.
