According to foreign media reports, an EU document shows that the EU has begun to formulate stricter draft cybersecurity rules, which states that smart devices such as smart refrigerators and TVs that can connect to the Internet will have to strictly comply with EU cybersecurity rules, otherwise they will face fines or ban from entering the market.

In recent years, with the occurrence of hacker incidents in many enterprises, people's concerns about network security have intensified. In response, EU executive agencies will announce a proposal called the Cyber Resilience Act on September 13 to regulate cybersecurity for smart devices. Network resilience refers to the ability of a system to respond quickly from a disaster to a normal state to ensure that the system is available at any time.

The document says manufacturers must assess the cybersecurity risks of their products and, once a problem is identified, must notify the EU cybersecurity agency ENISA of the incident within 24 hours and take steps to address it. Importers and distributors are also required to verify that products comply with EU rules.

If a business fails to comply, the regulator can "prohibit or restrict the sale of the product on its domestic market, or withdraw from that market." Failure to comply with the rules can result in fines of up to 2.5 per cent of its global turnover.
