CTOnews.com, September 9, 2022, Honeycomb Energy held a press conference in Brandenburg, Germany, announcing that it will build a battery factory for the European market in the state's Lauchhammer (Obersprewald-Lausitz, Obers Prewald-Lausitz region). This will be the second overseas factory planned by Honeycomb Energy after the construction of the pack plant in Hoisweiler, Sal. It is also the first battery factory.

Honeycomb Energy's new plant in Lauchhammer, Brandenburg, was previously home to the regional wind turbine manufacturing plant of global wind power giant Vestas. Honeycomb Energy said it would upgrade the plant according to battery company standards, and plans are already under way. The company is currently actively discussing various issues with the Brandenburg State Department of Economic Affairs, Labor and Energy and the relevant departments in the Rochhammer region.

Honeycomb Energy has already built its first factory in Sal, Germany in November 2020, and this time it will build a second factory in Brandenburg.

As to why Brandenburg was chosen for the second project in Europe, Honeycomb Energy pointed out that in recent years, a gathering place for the innovation and development of electric vehicles is being formed in the area around Lauchhammer and the whole Brandenburg. Many companies in the supply chain and battery life cycle are located in the region-such as the global materials giant BASF. Honeycomb Energy established a partnership with BASF at the end of 2021 to work on battery materials and their recycling.

CTOnews.com learned that according to the Honeycomb Energy Plan, future batteries produced in Lauchhammer will be processed and loaded at the Pack plant in Hoisweiler, Sal, resulting in synergy between the two bases. Lochhammer's location advantage also helps Honeycomb Energy serve current customer projects in time and achieve its capacity expansion goals in Europe more quickly.
