CTOnews.com, Sept. 9 (Xinhua)-- Intel's Mobileye announced today that a self-driving car with an Mobileye Drive will begin road testing in Detroit, entering a new phase of the project. This is also the first time that Mobileye's L4 self-driving solution has been launched on American roads.

In the past few years, Mobileye has launched a self-driving car test program. Data show that so far, self-driving cars developed by Mobileye have been driven into about 20 cities in ten countries on three continents.

CTOnews.com learned that Mobileye said that the Mobileye Drive in the Xilai ES8 SUV test model combines its unique solution for self-driving travel and mass production experience of providing driving assistance systems for nearly 120 million vehicles. The system includes true redundant sensing system (True Redundancy), road network information management (REM) crowdsourced map technology, and responsibility sensitive security model (RSS) driving strategy.

According to reports, the test vehicles before Mobileye, either visually or alone, use a combination of lidar and radar, while the commercial version of Mobileye Drive is equipped with these two sets of sensing hardware: a 360-degree sensing technology suite containing 11 cameras, 6 radars, 3 long-range lidars and 6 short-range lidars, all driven by EyeQ chips.
