Brazil has been Apple's most expensive iPhone market for years, including iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and even the third-generation iPhone SE, CTOnews.com reported on Sept. 9. However, after Apple launched the iPhone 14 series, Turkey overtook Brazil to become the most expensive place in the world for the iPhone 14, according to Nukeni.

Every year Nukeni updates its rankings based on the iPhone price obtained from Apple's website in each country, which varies according to local currency and local taxes in each country.

CTOnews.com learned that Turkey is now the most expensive country for iPhone 14, with the iPhone 14 Pro as an example, the 128GB version costs $2193.15 (about 15242.39 yuan), compared with 7999 yuan for Bank of China. Brazil came in second, with the same model selling for $1823.19 (about 12671.17 yuan). The cheapest places to buy the iPhone 14 Pro are the United States and Japan, which cost $999 (about 6943.05 yuan, excluding local tax) and $1039.46 (about 7224.25 yuan), respectively. Other countries that are also expensive to buy iPhone 14 are India, Hungary and Poland.

The same is true for the iPhone 14, which starts at $829 (about 5761.55 yuan) in the United States and $831.29 (about 5777.47 yuan) for 128GB's iPhone 14 in Japan. Turkey still tops the list, with the same model priced at $1699.68 (about 11812.78 yuan), more than double the price in the United States.

What makes iPhone 14 the most expensive in Turkey? There are a number of factors affecting the price of Apple devices around the world, mainly because Turkey has been facing a severe economic crisis, with inflation exceeding 80% for the first time in more than 20 years. Back in 2021, Apple suspended product sales in Turkey after the local currency depreciated 15% against the dollar in a matter of hours. When it resumed sales in Turkey, Apple raised the price of its products by 25%. The country's App Store app prices and subscription fees have also been raised as a result of the collapse of the local currency.

Of course, Turkey is not the only country in the world suffering from inflation. After yesterday's launch, Apple has quietly raised the price of its products in other European countries. For example, the third-generation iPhone SE has risen from £419 to £449 in the UK.

It is worth mentioning that the new iPhone 14 series has no price increase only in China and the United States (but different memory versions have different price increases), and the price in other countries is higher than that of the previous generation.
