Electric car sales hit a record high in August: the share of independent brands increased to 70%, 10 times more than that of joint ventures.

Tesla sold 77000 cars in August, and Model Y ranked first in overall passenger car sales for the first time.

Car East and West on September 8 news, today the Federation of passengers officially released the overall situation of the domestic passenger car market in August. Throughout August, a total of 1.871 million new cars were sold in China, an increase of 28.9% over the same period last year, the highest growth rate in nearly a decade.

Among them, the retail sales of new energy vehicles were 529000, an increase of 111.2% over the same period last year.

Such market performance is also inseparable from the outstanding performance of car companies. In August, a total of 16 car sales exceeded 10,000 units, accounting for 84% of the total sales of new energy passenger vehicles.

Retail sales of new energy passenger cars totaled 3.262 million units in the first eight months of this year, up 119.7% from a year earlier.

From these data, it is not difficult to see that although the automobile industry is facing the risk of parts shortage and the impact of the epidemic this year, the development of the new energy industry is still very rapid, and the monthly sales and cumulative sales have almost doubled compared with the same period last year. It can be said that the general trend of new energy has been unstoppable.

So what are the highlights of the new energy market in August? What trend does it reflect? After the analysis of the car, the following five main points are drawn.

01. Tesla bottomed out and Model Y won the first August sales change was most obvious by Tesla, with a total of 76965 new cars sold, ranking second only to BYD's 173977 among new energy car companies.

However, Tesla's total sales of 76965 vehicles also include the number of exports overseas, and the 62169 vehicles of Model Y also include some of the exports.

In spite of this, Tesla's sales in August were also amazing. In July, Tesla sold only 28217 vehicles, only 8933 models were insured in China, only 8083 were insured in Model Y, and only 850 in Model 3.

However, Tesla had some special circumstances at that time. The Shanghai factory was being renovated in July, and the production lines of Model Y and Model 3 were being revamped. Everyone in the industry thought that Tesla would rebound in August, and this month's results also proved this point.

Tesla's sales are expected to increase further in the next few months as the factory resumes production.

02. New energy pure electricity dominates BYD's 70% plug-in market data show that total sales of new energy vehicles in August were 529000, of which 397000 were pure electric vehicles and 132000 were plug-in hybrids.

It is worth noting that 132000 cars were sold in August, while data released by BYD showed that a total of 91299 models were sold, which means that BYD has nearly 70 per cent of the market. Other car companies need to work harder in this area to achieve results.

However, from a proportional point of view, pure electric vehicles are still the absolute main force of the new energy vehicle market.

Among them, B-class cars are the main ones. In August, the sales of B-class electric vehicles accounted for 28% of pure electric vehicles. A00-class electric vehicles accounted for 25% of pure electric vehicles, A0-class electric vehicles accounted for 19% of pure electric cars, and A-class electric vehicles accounted for 26% of pure electric vehicles.

And this is also the result of self-regulation of the domestic new energy vehicle market. In 2017, the domestic pure electricity market was dominated by A00 models, which accounted for 67% of the pure electricity market that year. By 2019, the proportion of A00 pure electricity was only 26%. In 2020, the A00 class showed a rapid development trend, and the regression share reached more than 30%.

Sales of A0-class pure electric vehicles have also continued to grow, rebounding to 17% of the pure electricity market in 2022.

At present, A00, A0, An and B pure trams have become the main new energy models in China, and the whole market structure is gradually balanced.

03. Half of the autonomous new cars are electric joint ventures only Volkswagen can play in terms of retail sales, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles is 28.3%, which reflects the current hot sales of new energy vehicles.

But if you only look at independent brands, this figure will be even more exaggerated. The penetration rate of new energy vehicles in independent brands is 52.8%, while that of new energy vehicles in mainstream joint venture brands is still 4.9%.

According to the data, it means that one out of every two cars sold by domestic car companies in August is a new energy vehicle.

In addition, in terms of market share, the retail share of mainstream independent brands of new energy vehicles in August was 70%, up 4.2% from the same period last year; the share of joint venture brand new energy vehicles was 6.4%, down 0.64% from the same period last year; the share of new power was 15.3%, down 3.9% from the same period last year; Tesla's share was 6.5%, up 1.3%.

It is not difficult to find that in the domestic new energy vehicle market, independent brands have become the backbone. On the other hand, the joint venture car enterprises have lost the heroic style of the fuel car era and are struggling in the quagmire, so in the process of the new four modernizations of the automobile, the domestic car enterprises are expected to rise completely.

Among the joint ventures, Volkswagen is the only one. Among the mainstream joint venture brands, the wholesale sales of North-South Volkswagen new energy vehicles are 22600, accounting for 61.2% of the mainstream joint venture pure electric.

Other joint ventures and overseas luxury brands have yet to find a suitable new energy path.

04. The new energy pattern gradually stabilized and new forces began to enter the list in August this year. A number of car companies maintained good sales. 16 car companies all sold more than 10,000 new energy vehicles. In July, there were 16 car companies, but in the same period last year, there were only 6. From this point of view, the competitiveness of many car companies is increasing.

According to the CAC data, the 16 car companies are BYD 173977, Tesla China 76965, SAIC GM Wuling 52551, Geely 37500, Chery 28778, and GAC EAN 27021. There are 26941 SAIC passenger vehicles, 16679 Changan cars, 16017 Nezha cars, 12525 zero-running cars, 12010 FAW-Volkswagen, 11964 Great Wall cars, 11200 Dongfeng easytes, 10,677 Lailai cars, 10,590 SAIC-Volkswagen cars and 1, 045 Selis cars.

Among them, Najia, Zero, Ulay and Cyrus all belong to the new car camp, and being able to occupy a certain position in this list also shows that the new car companies are gradually stabilizing.

In addition, it is worth noting that these 16 companies account for 84% of the total number of new energy passenger cars, that is to say, these car companies have become the main players in the new energy vehicle market. In addition, players like Xiaopeng and ideal also have very strong strength.

For the newcomers in the new energy vehicle market, it is necessary to come up with more outstanding products in order to gain a firm foothold.

05. After a number of new energy companies actively go out to sea to enter the era of new energy vehicles, various domestic car companies have joined the sea army to continuously improve the service network overseas.

Among many enterprises, Tesla is still the largest exporter, exporting 42463 new cars a month, even exceeding the number sold at home.

In addition to Tesla, SAIC passenger vehicles exported a total of 15004 new energy vehicles, Dongfeng easy Jet exported 8462 new energy vehicles, BYD also exported 5092 new energy vehicles, Geely Motor and SAIC Chase exported 1933 and 1232 vehicles respectively.

In addition to these traditional car companies, new car manufacturers are also promoting exports. Xilai Automobile and Xiaopeng Motor have formulated a sea strategy and have begun to open stores overseas, and some models have been handed over to overseas users.

Prior to this, domestic car companies have failed to go to sea, and in the era of electrification, the recognition of domestic products overseas is constantly improving, and it is very likely to achieve success in the new round of going out to sea.

06. Conclusion: the new energy vehicle market is still in a booming period in the previous car market, August is usually the off-season of sales, but in August this year, new energy vehicles changed this trend, and is still very popular.

Although there are various factors such as policy promotion and rising oil prices, it is undeniable that consumers' acceptance of new energy vehicles is gradually increasing.

Judging from the current situation, new energy vehicles are in the stage of vigorous growth and will continue to grow for a period of time in the future.
