CTOnews.com reported on September 8 that retail sales in the passenger car market reached 1.871 million units in August 2022, an increase of 28.9 percent over the same period last year, the highest growth rate in the past 10 years. Retail sales grew 2.9 percent month-on-month in August, the second lowest in the history of the same period in nearly a decade. Retail sales totaled 12.95 million vehicles from January to August, up 0.1% from the same period last year and 13000 vehicles from the same period last year, of which an increase of 1.102 million vehicles from June to August contributed greatly.

In August, 2.116 million passenger cars were produced, an increase of 41.9% over the same period last year, a decrease of 1.9% from the previous month, and measures to ensure supply in the industrial chain were effective. Manufacturers sold 2.097 million vehicles wholesale in August, up 38.3% from the same period last year, down 1.7% from the previous month. Driven by the new energy market, some car companies showed obvious differences in performance. From January to August, manufacturers' wholesale sales reached 14.403 million vehicles, an increase of 11.9 percent over the same period last year.

In August, wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 632000, an increase of 103.9% over the same period last year and 12.0% month-on-month. Under the policy of halving car purchase tax, new energy vehicles were not only unaffected, but continued to improve better than expected. From January to August, 3.662 million new energy passenger vehicles were wholesale, an increase of 119.4% over the same period last year. Retail sales of new energy passenger cars reached 529000 in August, an increase of 111.2% over the same period last year, and a month-on-month increase of 8.8% in January-August to form a "W" trend. From January to August, the domestic retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles were 3.262 million, an increase of 119.7% over the same period last year.

In terms of monthly domestic retail share, the retail share of mainstream independent brands of new energy vehicles in August was 70%, up 4.2% from the same period last year; the share of joint venture brand new energy vehicles was 6.4%, down 0.64% from the same period last year; and the share of new power was 15.3%, down 3.9% from the same period last year. Tesla's share was 6.5%, up 1.3%.

In August, 77000 new energy passenger vehicles were exported, 42463 for Tesla China, 15004 for SAIC passenger cars, 8462 for Dongfeng Egett, 5092 for BYD cars, 1933 for Geely, 1232 for SAIC Chase, 1025 for DPCA, 487 for Jianghuai, 278 for Skyworth, 263 for FAW Red Flag, and 262 for Dongfeng passenger vehicles. Recently, the export of new forces has gradually started.

CTOnews.com learned that the new energy passenger car market hit an all-time high in August, and BYD pure electric and plug-in twin drives consolidate the leading position of its own brand in new energy; traditional car companies represented by Chery Group and GAC GROUP are quite outstanding in the new energy sector. In terms of product launch, with the multi-line development of independent car companies on the new energy route, the market base continues to expand, and 16 enterprises have wholesale sales exceeding 10,000 vehicles (unchanged from the previous month, an increase of 10 over the same period last year), accounting for 84% of the total new energy passenger vehicles. Among them: 173977 from BYD, 76965 from Tesla China, 52551 from SAIC GM Wuling, 37500 from Geely, 28778 from Chery, 27021 from Guangzhou Automobile EA, 26941 from SAIC passenger vehicles, 16679 from Changan, 16017 from Nezha, 12525 from Zero, 12010 from FAW-Volkswagen, 11,964 from Great Wall, 11,200 from Dongfeng Egett, 10,677 from Lulai, 10590 from SAIC-Volkswagen and 1,045 from Cyrus.
