According to Apple's official data, the GPU and neural engine core of the A16 Bionic are exactly the same as last year's A15 Bionic, while thanks to the improvement of TSMC's N4 (third-generation 5nm, about 6% density increase) process, the final CPU achieved "nearly 16 billion transistors", slightly higher than the A15 of 15 billion.

Considering that Apple claims that the power consumption of A16 large cores (a total of 2 large and 4 small) has been reduced by about 20%, most people believe that the improvement in A16 performance is extremely limited and the area has not changed much.

However, according to Apple's official PPT, the A16 has an improvement of about 33.3 per cent over the A13 and about 40 per cent better than another competitor that is not as good as the A13 (most likely the Samsung craft Snapdragon 8 Gen 1).

But in fact, in terms of paper parameters, the A16 only has the memory upgraded from LPDDR4X 4266 to LPDDR5 6400 compared to the A15, so the bandwidth is increased by 50%. Although the A16 game performance will theoretically improve as a result, Apple does not advertise this; the NPU computing power has been upgraded from 16T to 17T.

Now, some reviewers who have got iPhone 14 Pro Max in advance have run on the Internet, and the results have been included in the Geekbench database, and everyone has finally been able to solve the problem.

From the running point of view, A16 single-core and multi-core are 1879 points and 4664 points respectively, the basic frequency 3.46GHz, while the machine running iOS16 system, is still 6GB RAM.

As a comparison, the average A15 single-core running score of 3.2GHz given by Geekbench is 1692 (iPhone13 / mini), 1707 (Pro / Max) and 1722 (iPhone SE3), while that of multi-core running is 4498, 4674 and 4546.

Based on this calculation, A16 single core increases by about 9.12% / 11.05% compared with A15, and multicore by about-0.21% / 3.69%, but considering the frequency increase of about 8.13%, this is also expected.

Of course, although the performance improvement is not as much as expected, this generation of A16 does reduce power consumption and bring more advanced camera performance.

With the new ISP and 48MP subjects, the iPhone 14 Pro and Max can take clearer images than any iPhone, and can perform up to 4 trillion operations per photo, thus retaining more data and enabling brighter and more vibrant photos.
