CTOnews.com, Sept. 8 (Xinhua)-- Apple CEO Tim Cook, former Apple Design Director Jony Ive and Laurene Powell Jobs, founder of Emerson Collective and widow of Steve Jobs, attended a Code Conference seminar on Wednesday to talk about the late Apple founder Steve Jobs and his influence on technology, culture and other aspects. The discussion, hosted by journalist Kara Swisher, came after Apple's fall product launch, at which Apple unveiled new iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch.

CTOnews.com learned that Tim Cook praised Steve Jobs for making privacy a top priority for Apple and said he still runs the tech giant largely the way Jobs did.

Cook said Apple has been trying to ensure that privacy is not lost in a surveillance-driven world. Over the past year, Apple has sparked an outcry over tightening rules on advertising in apps, which social media companies say has hurt their revenue.

"Digital advertising is not a bad thing," Cook said. "the bad thing is to collect data from users without their knowledge. We are trying to get users to sit in the driver's seat and have their own data."

Cook also said that Apple still holds Jobs' traditional 9 a.m. meeting with all executives every Monday. "the company still operates in Steve's way in many ways."

Jony Ive, who left Apple in 2019 to start his own design company, said Jobs' focus has never been on selling more products. "I've never met anyone so curious and knowledgeable," Ive said.

Laurene Powell Jobs, founder of Emerson Collective and widow of Steve Jobs, recalled that the simplification of Apple's product line was promoted after Jobs left the company. At that time, he reduced the number of products to only four main product lines.

Cook also said that Jobs believed that better answers could be obtained through debates, and that "sometimes positions he doesn't even believe are taken just to make the discussion go smoothly."
