As Apple released the 16 RC version of iOS to developers today, foreign media 9to5Mac found that the system will now alert users to fake AirPods.

The code found in the internal system file shows that iOS 16 can detect fake AirPods, the report said. Some of the knockoffs look exactly like the official AirPods, and they can even trigger some system functions, such as automatic pairing and battery lights.

With iOS 16, Apple's iPhone and iPad will sound an alert when users try to match a fake AirPods. The message reads: "these headphones cannot be verified as real AirPods and may not work as expected."

Users can click the "learn more" button for the alert and go to the support article on Apple's website, which contains more details on how to identify the official AirPods. In addition, users can also click the "disconnect" option. But Apple has left room for not directly banning these fake AirPods connections.

CTOnews.com has learned that iOS 16 will be available as a free software update from September 13 for iPhone 8 or successor models as well as iPhone SE (second generation) or successor models.
