CTOnews.com Sept. 8, Apple officially unveiled the new Apple Watch Series 8 watch at the "Far Out" launch held early this morning. Apple Watch Series 8 includes a new temperature sensor, which Apple says is "further committed to women's health".

Apple says Apple Watch Series 8 can track temperature changes as low as 0.1 degrees Celsius and check the temperature every five seconds. The company said that tracking body temperature at night can help female users gain insight into the ovulation cycle and can be used to enhance the menstrual cycle tracking function of the watch. Apple says the data is encrypted on the watch itself and that anyone tracking their cycles is an important consideration.

Last year's Apple Watch Series 7 adopted a slightly newer design to make the screen larger than previous models (but did not introduce a completely new flat look, as rumored). In addition to the redesign, it only includes some new features: faster charging, higher durability and some new colors. Apple Watch Series 8 aluminum comes in four colors: midnight, Starlight, Silver and Red; stainless steel models are available in silver, gold and graphite.

Apple Watch Series 8 also includes two new motion sensors that detect whether users have experienced a serious car accident and automatically connect emergency services, provide locations and notify emergency contacts for car owners. To this end, the Apple Watch Series 8 is equipped with a new 3-axis gyroscope and a high g-force accelerometer that can measure up to 256G and increase the sampling speed by four times (3000 times per second).

Apple says its collision detection function will only run while driving, which helps keep the watch's battery life for 18 hours. Apple also introduced a low-power mode, extending the battery life of the watch to 36 hours. Starting with Series 4, this feature will also appear on older watches as long as you run watchOS 9. Enabling this mode turns off the AOD display and automatic exercise tracking, but users will still get activity tracking and collision detection. Old watches and Series 8 also have cellular roaming capabilities.

The Apple Watch Series 8 GPS version starts at $399 (Bank of China 2999 yuan) and the GPS + cellular version starts at $499 (Bank of China 3799 yuan) and goes on sale on September 16.
