Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com Sept. 7, Microsoft has issued a warning notice for Chilean users running Windows 7-Windows 11 client and server versions. According to Microsoft, customers may encounter problems and errors Bug in various parts of the operating system due to upcoming daylight saving time (DST) time zone changes. Fortunately, this is not a Y2K Bug, so Windows users from Chile should not see any unusual failures.

On August 9, 2022, the Chilean government announced that the country's official time would be advanced by 60 minutes on September 10. As a result, computers running Windows may experience the following symptoms:

The time shown in the Windows and the application will be incorrect.

Applications and cloud services that use dates and time for integration capabilities, such as Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Outlook, notifications, and meeting scheduling, may be delayed by 60 minutes.

Automation that uses dates and times, such as scheduled tasks, may not run at the expected time.

Timestamps for transactions, files, and logs are turned off for 60 minutes.

When trying to log in or access resources, operations that depend on time-dependent protocols, such as Kerberos, may cause authentication to fail.

Windows devices and applications outside Chile may also be affected if they connect to servers or devices in Chile, or if they are scheduling or participating in meetings held in Chile from another location or time zone. Do not use this solution for Windows devices outside Chile because it changes the local time on the device.

The following are measures that Chilean customers should take to avoid errors and other problems caused by DST changes:

Users can alleviate this problem on Chilean devices by doing any of the following after September 4, 2022 and undoing it on September 11, 2022:

Select the Windows logo key, type date and time, and then select the date and time settings. On the date and time settings page, switch the automatic adjustment of daylight saving time to off.

Go to Control Panel > clock and area > date and time > change the time zone, and then uncheck the automatically adjust Daylight savings time clock option.

To alleviate this problem in the San Diego time zone, after 12:00 on September 11, 2022, and after 10:00 on September 10, 2022, for the Easter Islands time zone, follow these steps to re-enable automatic DST adjustment and ensure accurate time switching during future DST transitions. This can be done by doing any of the following:

Select the Windows logo key, type date and time, and then select the date and time settings. On the date and time settings page, switch the automatic adjustment of daylight saving time to on.

Go to Control Panel > clock and area > date and time > change the time zone, and then select the automatically adjust Daylight savings time clock option.

CTOnews.com learned that the solution mentioned in the official document applies only to customers living in Chile, and Microsoft says users from other countries should not change their daylight saving time settings. Microsoft plans to release updates to support the new DST settings in Chile, but it will take more time to build, test, and release such updates.

Microsoft will not make automatic updates before DST takes effect, so users will need to manually adjust their Windows system this year.
