CTOnews.com BYD plans to acquire land in Rayong Province in eastern Thailand to build its first electric car factory in Southeast Asia, and has issued an invitation letter announcing that it will sign a land purchase agreement with WHA, Thailand's largest industrial real estate developer, on Thursday.

CTOnews.com understands that WHA Thailand Weihua Industry has officially announced that it has reached an agreement with BYD to purchase industrial land. The company is also said to have raised its target for land sales in industrial parks by 2022, from an initial 1250 Thai acres to 1650 Thai acres, of which 1400 Thai acres are in Thailand.

Not surprisingly, BYD will become the third Chinese-owned car brand to invest in Thailand (MG and Great Wall have already set up assembly lines in Thailand).

At present, Thailand has strong domestic automobile production capacity, especially new energy source vehicles led by electric vehicles. At present, there are more than 20,000 EV cars in Quantai, and 8000 have been successfully sold in the first seven months of this year.

It is worth mentioning that BYD held a brand launch conference in Bangkok on August 8, announcing that it will start selling new energy vehicles in Thailand later this year in cooperation with RVER Automotive. In addition, Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) office announced last month that the company plans to invest about 30 billion baht in the production of electric vehicles.
