According to the latest audit report released on Sept. 7, Twitter teams responsible for cracking down on false information often have to turn to other teams for help because they lack the personnel, tools and other resources needed to carry out their work.

According to foreign media reports, the audit report showed that Twitter's integrity team did not have "necessary specialized engineering support" in dealing with false information widely spread on the platform.

The audit report concluded that the lack of resources meant that the team could only "respond to the crisis at that time" and hindered the platform's ability to effectively "proactively monitor and mitigate threats to avoid crises". Twitter didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Earlier, the Washington Post and CNN disclosed details of reports made to regulators by Pat Zatko, the former head of security on Twitter. He was commissioned to audit Twitter's efforts to deal with false information in 2021, when he was working for the company.

It is reported that many employees were interviewed in the audit, who said Twitter was slow to deal with content involving promoting conspiracy theories because its team did not know which department the work fell under.

The 12 employees interviewed by the audit also mentioned repeatedly that teams dealing with false information were "underresourced" and often "had to borrow resources from other teams (such as engineering support)".
