On September 6, according to foreign media reports, the International Semiconductor Industry Association (SEMI) released a report saying that the overall size of the semiconductor materials market is expected to grow by 8.6% in 2022, reaching a record high of US $69.8 billion. Of this total, the wafer material market will grow by 11.5% to US $45.1 billion, and the packaging material market will grow by 3.9% to US $24.8 billion.

During the COVID-19 epidemic, more and more people worked and studied at home, leading to an increase in demand for all kinds of semiconductor products such as chips used in smartphones and computers. Driven by the strong demand for semiconductor products, the demand for semiconductor materials has also increased significantly, resulting in the expansion of the semiconductor material market.

According to data released by SEMI in March this year, the global semiconductor materials market reached US $64.3 billion in 2021, up 15.9% from US $55.5 billion in 2020, a record high. Of this total, the wafer material market was US $40.4 billion, up 15.5% from the same period last year, and the packaging material market was US $23.9 billion, up 16.5% from the same period last year.

Looking ahead, SEMI predicts that the semiconductor materials market is expected to exceed US $70 billion in 2023.
