Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
September 6 news, according to foreign media reports, the European Space Agency's solar orbiter encountered severe solar storms while flying over Venus. Fortunately, the equipment withstood the oncoming solar plasma attack and successfully approached Venus.
Recently, there have been large-scale explosions of charged particles in the sun's upper atmosphere, forming coronal mass ejections, according to the European Space Agency. On August 30, the corona erupted from the sun toward Venus and soon spread to the solar orbiter preparing to fly over Venus.
Solar orbiters are designed to measure coronal mass ejections, so they can easily withstand such solar storms.

The aircraft carries 10 scientific instruments to observe the sun's surface and collect data about coronal mass ejections, solar wind and the sun's magnetic field. During close proximity to Venus, the mission team shut down some of the instruments, mainly to avoid problems that might be caused by intense sunlight reflected from Venus's atmosphere, the European Space Agency said in a statement.
When the solar orbiter encounters coronal mass ejection, it can collect some valuable environmental data and detect the increase of high-energy solar particles. If we observe the intense solar activity directly, we can see that various particles such as protons, electrons and even ionized helium atoms are ejected from the sun and accelerated to a speed close to the theory of relativity. These particles pose a radiation risk to astronauts and may damage spacecraft. Therefore, the study of the motion of plasma in space is of great value to protect life and equipment on earth and in space.
After a solar storm, the solar orbiter successfully approached Venus at 01:26 GMT on September 4.
Jose-Luis Peron-Byron (Jose-Luis Pellon-Bailon), operations manager of the Sun Orbiter, said in a statement: "with a lot of planning from colleagues in the flight dynamics department and the tireless efforts of the flight control team, this close flyby of Venus went exactly as planned."
The main purpose of flying close to Venus is to change the orbit of the solar orbiter and bring it closer to the sun. During the flyby of Venus, the solar orbiter also observed the magnetic field of Venus.
The solar orbiter was launched in 2020 and the mission is scheduled to last ten years. The goal of this mission is to photograph the sun at a closer range and to study the characteristics of the sun's magnetic field. The solar orbiter also uses the gravity of Venus to change its orbit, thus deviating from the ecliptic plane, and finally realizing the first observation of the sun's poles.
