Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu in South China for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com, September 4, Oracle recently released the latest stable version of VirtualBox 6.1.38, a virtualization software that supports open source, cross-platform, and popular GNU / Linux, Solaris, macOS, and Windows systems.

VirtualBox 6.1.38 was released a month and a half after the release of the major version of VirtualBox 6.1.36, which introduced support for Linux 5.18 and Linux 5.19 kernel families, initial support for the upcoming Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.1 operating system, initial support for Python 3.10, and better support for Linux kernels built with Clang compilers.

CTOnews.com learned that VirtualBox 6.1.38 focused on the introduction of initial support for the upcoming Linux 6.0kernel. This means that users will be able to virtualize the GNU / Linux distribution driven by Linux kernel 6. 0, which will be officially released later this fall, as well as the installation of VirtualBox in Linux 6. 0-driven distributions.

Although VirtualBox 6.1.36 introduced initial support for Red Hat's upcoming RHEL 9.1 system, VirtualBox version 6.1.38 brought additional fixes to the kernel used in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.1.

Also for Linux systems, the new version of VirtualBox updates the Linux Host and Guest Additions installer to improve the mechanism for checking for the presence of systemd init systems in the distribution.

Among other changes, this release improves the native language support area of GUI, adds support for exporting virtual machines that contain Virtio-SCSI controllers, and improves drag-and-drop areas added by Windows visitors.

This release also improves built-in recording, adds more deterministic naming to recorded files and overwrites old .webm files, if any, and fixes fallbacks that may cause the COM server (VBoxSVC) to fail to start in some cases.

Users can download VirtualBox 6.1.38 from the official website for their favorite GNU / Linux distribution. Also remember to download and update the Oracle VM VirtualBox expansion pack.
