CTOnews.com September 4 news, According to China Railway Construction News reported, On September 4, The world's first high-slope spiral tunnel boring machine in China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Group Changsha Second Industrial Park off the line, Named "Beishan No.1," By China Railway Construction Heavy Industry, China Railway 18th Bureau jointly built.

According to introduction, the whole machine length of this equipment is about 100 meters, the diameter is 7.03 meters, can realize horizontal 200 meters turning radius, at the same time vertical 380 meters curve radius spiral tunneling, will participate in Gansu Beishan underground laboratory ramp construction.

"Beishan No.1" adopts conical cutter head design, which improves rock breaking efficiency by 3 times compared with traditional plane cutter head. The comprehensive slope of Beishan underground laboratory to be constructed is 10%, and the ramp length is about 7.2km. It is the first ramp project constructed by full-section hard rock tunneling machine in the world.

CTOnews.com learned that in May 2019, with the approval of the State Council, the Beishan Underground Laboratory Project was approved by the National Defense Science, Technology and Industry Bureau. The project started construction on June 17, 2021. It is one of the 100 major projects of the national "13th Five-Year Plan" and a major environmental protection research project of the national "14th Five-Year Plan". It is an important part of China's nuclear fuel closed cycle science and technology innovation system. After completion, the project will become the world's largest nuclear environmental protection scientific research facility.
