In Europe, only Samsung and Huawei have launched real folding screen devices, and it can be said that only Samsung models are worth considering; after all, Huawei phones are not popular with overseas users because of US sanctions.
Now, Glory says it will release a second folding screen phone next year, and unlike Glory MagicV, they will also sell high-end phones outside China to challenge Apple and Samsung on the global stage. According to Counterpoint Research, global shipments of high-end Q2 phones are up 94% year-on-year, mainly led by apple and Samsung.
Zhao Ming confirmed the plan in an interview before IFA 2022 in Berlin and said the company expects to launch its next folding screen phone in the first quarter of next year.
"We have decided that in the first quarter of next year, we will introduce the latest folding screen phones to the international market, including Europe." He says the main selling point of Glory's new phone is thinner, lighter and more affordable.
Glory has launched a number of high-end models since Huawei became independent. Now it has also launched its flagship Magic 4 and Glory 70 phones to the international market. In other words, Glory has also decided to focus on the smartphone market outside China and the more expensive high-end market. This will put Glory in competition with Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4.
James Manning Smith, a senior analyst at CCS Insight, said: "as the global economy deteriorates in 2022 and the high end of the market remains strong, both Samsung and Apple have benefited so far this year."

When asked why Glory and other brands of folding screen products give priority to the Chinese market, Zhao Ming said, "A large number of popular applications in China are optimized for folding devices." This is because China has a unique market for Android apps, which is dominated by domestic apps such as Wechat, and even has a special version of Tiktok. This situation makes it easier for developers to work with them to optimize their applications to adapt to new form factors.
"We have a good relationship with app developers in China," Zhao explained, which means that developers are willing to work with Glory to optimize their applications on folding screen phones. In other parts of the world, users mostly need to download App from Google Play, while in China, users can find these apps through multiple app stores for that market.
But as Google has recently begun to improve the Android experience on large-screen devices, Zhao Ming believes the international market is catching up.
Zhao Ming pointed out that first, Google recently released Android 12L, a new mobile operating system optimized for tablets and folding screen devices, and developers are still trying to optimize their applications for large screens, and it is working with third-party developers to improve the experience of using apps such as TikTok, Zoom and Facebook. "Google has made a lot of efforts in this direction."
It is said that Glory has no plans to sell its folding screen products in the United States. Although the company began to enter the US market five years ago, it now chooses to focus its limited resources on regions such as Europe, where it already has relevant business and has more experience.
