Beijing, September 4 (Xinhua)-- the US moon landing rocket abandoned its launch attempt again because of a liquid hydrogen leak on Saturday, local time. This problem could delay the launch of the rocket for several weeks.

NASA said on Saturday that the hydrogen refueling equipment on the lunar rocket would need to be replaced after canceling the launch plan for the second time in a week, a decision that meant the rocket would not fly until at least the end of September. "I think this is part of our space program, and safety is the most important thing," NASA Director Bill Nelson said at a news conference on Saturday afternoon.

NASA officials explained that engineers had repeatedly tried to stop the liquid hydrogen leak. Some hardware will be replaced, and one of the options they are considering is to move the rocket back to the large spacecraft assembly building (VAB), which will delay the mission by several weeks.

At the same time, NASA engineers are likely to need to study the "space launch system" rocket's flight termination system (the equipment used to destroy the rocket when it deviates from orbit), which also takes time and needs to be completed at VAB. This means that even if the NASA can replace the hardware of the launch pad, the rocket will probably have to return to the hangar to do so before flying again.

Or put it off until October, it is not clear when NASA will try to launch again. NASA has scheduled the launch cycle for SLS to fly based on the position of the earth and moon and other parameters. The next launch will begin on September 19 and last until October 4. It could take weeks for the rocket to return to VAB, making it difficult to meet the launch window for the next phase. In addition, NASA and Elon Musk's SpaceX will send another group of astronauts to the International Space Station in early October, which could conflict with another launch attempt.

If the NASA cannot be launched in late September, another opportunity will be from October 17 to October 31. Nelson, a former Florida senator, took the space shuttle in 1986 and now runs NASA. He said this would be the launch period that NASA is trying to fight for. "although the window opens in early October, I suspect it is more likely to be in the middle of the launch window," he said in a live NASA program after abandoning the launch.
