O'Hara said he could not verify the accuracy of the renderings, but they did coincide with previous rumors about the next generation of AirPods Pro charging boxes.

Apple AirPods Pro 2's charging box is expected to be supported by Find My, and even if the AirPods Pro is not placed in the charging box, users can track the location of the charging box in the Find My app if it is lost or misplaced. Earlier this year, analyst Guo Mingyi said the charging box could make a sound when it was lost, thus adding loudspeaker openings.

The rendering also shows a hole that could be a microphone, although its purpose is not clear. One possibility is that the microphone can be used in Apple's accessibility Live Listen, which can help someone hear conversations in a noisy area or room. The microphone with the housing can receive the sound and send it to the AirPods Pro that someone is wearing, making the sound easier to hear.

Finally, the rendering shows an opening on the right side of the shell, which may be used for the lanyard attachment seen in the previous leak. This feature makes it easier to connect the AirPods Pro cover to the key chain without the need for additional accessories.

It is impossible to tell whether it is the Lightning interface or the USB-C interface from the rendering, but it is rumored that the charging box will continue to use the Lightning interface this year and switch to the USB-C interface with the iPhone 15 series next year.

In addition, the new AirPods Pro charging box may also have the same IPX4-level waterproof and sweat-proof performance as the third-generation AirPods charging box. Currently, only AirPods Pro headphones are waterproof, but the charging box does not.

The battery life of the second-generation AirPods Pro is expected to be longer due to the more energy-efficient H2 chip and the low-power LE audio standard that may support Bluetooth 5.2, but it is not clear whether the battery in the new charging box will be larger. The current AirPods Pro charging box is equipped with 519 mAh batteries.
