Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

In 2022, when you want to buy a high-end or flagship mobile phone, some features or configurations should be basic and necessary, such as fast charging, high screen brushing, etc., and don't forget to have 5G. Of course, it is also necessary to have 5GMAO WiFi 6.

I believe we are all familiar with the advantages of 5G, so what is so powerful about Wi-Fi 6? Why is it necessary? How to choose the equipment of Wi-Fi 6?

As it happens, Qualcomm held its first Snapdragon Carnival in Chengdu on August 26, where there was a performance comparison demonstration of Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 5.

CTOnews.com took advantage of this event to talk to you about Wi-Fi 6.

Wi-Fi 6 unexpectedly has such a significant advantage although Wi-Fi 6 has been widely used in many devices, there may be friends who don't know much about Wi-Fi 6, so let's talk about what Wi-Fi 6 is.

Wi-Fi 6, in a nutshell, is a new version of Wi-Fi technology, which was named by the Wi-Fi Alliance in April 2018 for the latest Wi-Fi network protocol standard at that time. It also has a more academic name, 802.11ax.

A smart friend may say, since there is Wi-Fi 6, there must be Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 4 and so on. Yes, Wi-Fi technology has been developed from generation to generation, but in the past, iterations were not recorded in numbers, but were named in the form of 802.11 + letters.

Here, CTOnews.com also sorted out Wi-Fi 1 to Wi-Fi 6 for you:

When it comes to the advantages of Wi-Fi 6, it must be compared with its recent predecessor, Wi-Fi 5. Here let's make a parameter comparison with Wi-Fi 5 wave 2:

Generally speaking, compared with Wi-Fi 5 and WimurFi 6, it has obvious advantages in terms of throughput (rate), latency and stability, which are key indicators that affect the experience. Let's take a closer look at it.

1. Larger throughput Wi-Fi 6 has a larger network throughput than Wi-Fi 5, which can be reflected in that even in the face of the limit scenario of multiple devices online at the same time, the terminal can still get a very high network rate.

How does Wi-Fi 6 do that? First of all, let's look at the rate. Compared with Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6 has an important feature upgrade, which is that it can support up to 1024QAM modulation. QAM is called "Quadrature amplitude Modulation", and the larger the number in front of it, the greater the amount of data carried by each jitter of the electromagnetic wave, and the higher the transmission rate. Wi-Fi 5 supports up to 256QAM, while Wi-Fi 6 can support 1024QAM, which is naturally higher.

At the same time, Wi-Fi 6 supports the large bandwidth of 160MHz, which is only optional in the Wi-Fi 5 era. The larger the bandwidth, we can understand that the wider the road, the faster the speed of natural vehicles.

In addition to higher rates, Wi-Fi 6 also has better support for multi-device scenarios, enabling upstream and uplink MU-MIMO:Wi-Fi 5 wave2 only downlink support for MU-MIMO.

MU-MIMO means multi-user multi-input and multi-output. If both the terminal and the router support MU-MIMO, the router can transmit non-interference network data to multiple devices at the same time, and the corresponding SU-MIMO can only transmit signals to one device at the same time.

In the Wi-Fi 6 standard, 8 terminals can share uplink and downlink MU-MIMO packets. In this way, when you usually play games on your mobile phone at home, some of the others in the family are browsing videos or watching the news, so that they will not be disturbed by each other.

Wi-Fi 6 achieves greater network throughput by providing better support in rate and multi-terminal scenarios. So how does it actually perform? At the Snapdragon Carnival in Chengdu, Qualcomm demonstrated the network throughput of Wi-Fi 6 with that of Wi-Fi 5.

In the demonstration, Qualcomm simulates the network environment of Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 5, and then simulates a multi-user scenario using eight devices equipped with Qualcomm's FastConnect mobile connection system. During the test, use these devices to upload files about 1GB at the same time.

Comparing the upload of a device in the Wi-Fi 6 environment and the Wi-Fi 5 environment, you can see that the upload speed of the terminal in the Wi-Fi 6 environment is significantly higher than that in the Wi-Fi 5 environment. When the Wi-Fi 6 environment device finished uploading the file, the Wi-Fi 5 environment device upload progress only reached 12%.

In terms of average transmission speed, Wi-Fi 6 environment devices can reach 23142.4 KB / s, while Wi-Fi 5 environment devices only have 739.6KB / s.

Through the actual demonstration, we can find that Wi-Fi can indeed bring higher throughput, faster speed and smoother transmission experience in multi-user scenarios, with obvious advantages.

2. Lower latency and higher stability, in addition to throughput, speed, daily network time, delay and stability are also key factors that affect the experience. Wi-Fi 6 also happens to bring lower latency and higher stability than Wi-Fi 5.

In general, larger network throughput will also bring lower latency, because data transmission rarely needs to be queued, and the delay will naturally be lower. At the same time, Wi-Fi 6 also has a big trick in reducing latency, which is to support OFDMA technology.

OFDMA is also called "orthogonal frequency division multiplexing". How to understand it? Let's use an example to compare network data transmission to cars transporting goods on the road. In the past, each car had so little space that each car could only carry one type of goods, and the distance between cars had to be kept frequently.

OFDMA's idea is to increase the size of each car as much as possible, for example, it used to be a small car, but now it has become a large bus, and the distance between the car and the car has become smaller, and the way the car is loaded has been improved, so that one car can carry more goods. And more importantly, a car can now carry different types of goods.

What does that mean? That is, different types of data, such as game data, video data and web page data, must be transported on different carriers and have to be queued up when they are busy. Now they can be packaged and transmitted together on one carrier. In this way, the delay will be greatly reduced.

At the same time, in terms of stability, Wi-Fi 6 also has targeted technology, that is, the function of spatial multiplexing, which enables Wi-Fi 6 to identify and stop signal interference in time when mobile phones receive signals from the same frequency band and the same wireless local area network, thus improving stability.

Qualcomm also made a comparative demonstration of the Snapdragon Carnival in terms of Wi-Fi 6 latency and stability. In the demonstration, eight mobile phones are used to simulate the multi-user scenario, in which four main demonstration devices are used in pairwise groups to carry out games, videos and other applications that require high delay, while the other four devices carry out data transmission applications that require low delay.

As can be seen from the figure below, in the Wi-Fi 6 network environment, the average latency of the four main demonstration devices is only about 4ms, which can play games and videos normally, while the average latency in the Wi-Fi 5 network environment is about 270ms, and the game and video experience will be significantly affected.

At the same time, Qualcomm also compares the actual application scenarios. When you use the main demonstration device to play online games, you can see the delay curve measured by the software. Under the Wi-Fi 6 environment, the curve has not exceeded the yellow line of 150ms delay. The average delay of Wi-Fi channel during the game is only 54ms, and the packet loss rate and high delay rate are both 0.00%. The network status is very stable.

In Wi-Fi 5 environment, the delay curve frequently exceeds the 150ms yellow line, the average delay of Wi-Fi channel reaches 111ms, the packet loss rate is 0.44%, the high delay rate reaches 19.56%, and the network state is unstable.

The demonstration and test results clearly show the great advantages of Wi-Fi 6 over Wi-Fi 5 in terms of network delay and stability.

With greater throughput, lower latency and higher stability, there is no doubt that Wi-Fi 6 is becoming a guarantee for us to enjoy a smooth connectivity experience. Together with 5G, it will form the "Wang Fang combination" of the top mobile connectivity experience in the new era.

While lamenting the power of Wi-Fi 6, don't forget that Qualcomm's assists have such a huge experience advantage over Wi-Fi 5 over Wi-Fi 6, the following question is naturally how to choose Wi-Fi 6 products.

Indeed, at present, various brands of mobile phones and routers on the market are dazzling. I don't know which one to choose. In fact, there is a very simple way is to identify products that use Qualcomm's Wi-Fi 6 solution.

In the previous demonstration, the reason why Wi-Fi 6 can successfully exert its strong advantages is due to the blessing of Qualcomm-related solutions, which can fully release the potential of Wi-Fi 6 from the terminal to the AP side.

For example, on the terminal side, Qualcomm has a FastConnect mobile connection system, in which Qualcomm has integrated some of the key technologies of Wi-Fi 6 from FastConnect 6200 on Snapdragon 855. At present, the FastConnect 6700 Compact 6900 platform is the most advanced commercial product in this series. Just this year, MWC Barcelona, Qualcomm also launched the latest FastConnect 7800 mobile connection system that supports Wi-Fi7, which will further promote the progress of Wi-Fi connectivity of mobile terminals.

In the case of the flagship FastConnect 6900 on the latest Snapdragon 8 + mobile platform, it can achieve 4-channel dual-frequency concurrency based on real-time dual Wi-Fi 6 technology (that is, it supports 2-channel data stream transmission in both 2.4GHz and 5GHz / 6GHz bands), bringing 2 times the speed and coverage, ultra-low latency and faster response speed.

In addition, the Qualcomm 4K QAM modulation technology on FastConnect 6900 is the industry's first advanced modulation technology, which can achieve a 20% increase in throughput compared to the standard Wi-Fi6/6E, further enhancing the game experience and ultra-high definition stream transmission capacity; at the same time, the application of uplink MU-MIMO and 160MHz bandwidth technology also provides support for improving throughput and reducing network congestion.

On the routing network side, Qualcomm Networking Pro professional networking platform and Qualcomm Immersive Home immersive home networking platform provide the industry with a rich portfolio of Wi-Fi6/6E products, with terminal-side FastConnect mobile connection system, Qualcomm solution has a complete end-to-end technical advantage from router to mobile phone.

Among them, the Qualcomm professional networking platform was launched in 2019, and the named 400,600,800,400,400 corresponds to the number of streams (for example, 1200 supports 4 streams, and so on). MU-MIMO is closely related to the number of streams, and the more streams, the more high-bandwidth devices supported.

After the launch of Wi-Fi 6e in 2020, Qualcomm took the lead in launching the second generation professional networking platform 610,810, 1210 and 1610.

The immersive home networking platform is another main line of Qualcomm, which enables high-density deployment and an immersive home networking experience by supporting small, compact, energy-efficient designs.

As a result, with the blessing of the full-link Wi-Fi 6 solution from the routing side to the terminal side of the overlay network, Qualcomm can really bring us an excellent Wi-Fi 6 network connection experience in one step, and at the same time help Wi-Fi 6 network to land more valuable application scenarios in this era of gigabit network and Internet of everything.

For example, in this Chengdu Snapdragon Carnival, Qualcomm presented the fantasy journey of Snapdragon XR based on Wi-Fi 6 network, through the VR all-in-one machine equipped with Snapdragon XR2 platform, allowing you to place yourself in a new world and enjoy ultra-clear visual experience. Through the top-of-the-line Wi-Fi 6 features of Qualcomm's Fast Connect 6800 mobile connection system, the low-latency wireless connection between the VR all-in-one machine and the sports seat is realized, combining vision and movement, leading the audience to embark on an immersive and wonderful journey and enjoy a truly immersive XR entertainment experience.

With the powerful Wi-Fi 6 solution, there will be many more such application scenarios, which will profoundly change our entertainment, work and life.

Conclusion Last year, IDC conducted a survey and forecast on the scale of China's Wi-Fi 6 terminal market. From the following way, we can see that the popularity of Wi-Fi 6 market scale will be very fast, and it will basically completely replace Wi-Fi 5 devices by 2024. On the one hand, on the one hand, Wi-Fi 6 shows obvious experience advantages compared with Wi-Fi 5, making it a common choice for consumers and the market. On the other hand, we should also benefit from the efforts of solution providers like Qualcomm, as well as the efforts of the entire mobile connection industry chain, so that Wi-Fi 6 products can be presented in the best and most diverse forms.

With the promotion of the gigabit network plan of domestic operators and the strong output of Qualcomm and other industry chain participants, it is believed that Wi-Fi 6 will land and blossom in more application scenarios, leading you to enter the comprehensive gigabit network era more quickly.
