On August 30, the new ColorOS 13 system and the intelligent cross-end system "Pantanal" were officially unveiled at the OPPO 2022 developer conference with the theme of "abundant mind, all the way together". Based on the design concept of "aquatic creatures", the new ColorOS 13 system has been upgraded around the integration of wisdom, fluency, privacy and so on.

After the press conference, CTOnews.com participated in a group visit to ColorOS 13. Li Jie, vice president of OPPO Software Engineering, and Chen Xi, design director of OPPO ColorOS, gave further answers on the new system and OPPO's propositions on IoT.

The concept of "aquatic things" is full of vitality, and at the core is OPPO's long-term understanding of design on ColorOS 13, the new "aquatic design" gives the new system a more natural visual experience, such as color, wallpaper drawing sea level sunrise to sunset, 24-hour changes, breath screen animation changes with the change of daily temperature, and so on. Not only that, ColorOS 13 also constructs two new color systems: "Sunrise Blue" and "Sunset Orange" in the main tone of the system, with more vivid visual feedback of the system.

With regard to this change in design, Chen Xi Chen, design director of OPPO ColorOS, explained that in the past, we used to do borderless design, including curves, white space, and so on. In fact, our goal is mainly to match the design of mobile phones with a full screen. Now there will be some changes in our top-level design goals, including our equipment, the current ecological environment and the past. We have a variety of devices, including folding screens, tablets, watches, televisions, etc., our design will make some adaptive adjustments, behind which are some dynamic adjustments made by the dynamic changes of our design goals.

Chen Xi answered the new color system of ColorOS 13, saying that whether colors are highly saturated or low saturated is cyclical, because it is impossible to develop with the same color system forever in 20 or 30 years. Today, the color saturation has become higher, as mentioned in the concept of aquatic design, we hope that the design is more dynamic than in the past, more responsive to the current social atmosphere, and hope to activate a better state through this design.

In terms of personalization, the idea of OPPO is to give users enough freedom to make some framework designs, and users can make their own more advanced designs in the framework design. Therefore, it emphasizes limited personalization, certainly not unlimited personalization.

With regard to the design concept of ColorOS, Li Jie, vice president of the Software Engineering Division of OPPO, also explained: "the core of the design of the integration of software and hardware is OPPO's long-term understanding of design, and both hardware and software are the same starting point." Li Jie said that "aquatic design" has been combined with ID design and wallpaper design. It must be simple, elegant and intuitive. ColorOS 13 can be said to be the first product supported by this concept, and you will find a more and more unified underlying design philosophy in the future. Although what appears on the surface are hardware, CMF, software, UI, and interaction, the support behind it is more important.

With regard to the system optimization of folding screen mobile phones, Li Jie also added that the optimization of folding screen will not wait for the next new product, but will continue to optimize and innovate on the folding operating system. There is a lot of cooperation between OPPO and Google. I hope to write more frameworks in some UI specification layers, and more developers are needed to adapt together in the ecology of Android. It is worth mentioning that many of the framework suggestions put forward by OPPO have been incorporated into the latest 13L version of Android.

ColorOS supercomputing platform is supported, and the balance of high performance and low power consumption ensures a smooth and stable experience for users in all aspects. This time, OPPO also launched the self-developed system-level computing hub "ColorOS supercomputing platform". The "ColorOS supercomputing platform" has four major computing engines: parallel computing, high-performance computing, cloud computing and intelligent computing. Officially, the performance is improved by 10%, the game life is increased by 4.7%, and the maximum temperature of the game is reduced by 1 ℃.

It is reported that the "ColorOS supercomputing platform" has established a computing power model that integrates vertically from scene to hardware, realizes the computing power statistics of the chip instruction level, makes accurate scheduling, finds the best computing power combination scheme, and realizes the balance between high performance and low power consumption.

In the interview, the OPPO team also gave a more detailed answer to the "ColorOS supercomputing platform". It is reported that the supercomputing platform is a major technical topic in the computer architecture system of OPPO, which has realized some applications this time, and some are still on the way of development. The core of ColorOS supercomputing platform is instruction set scheduling, which has nothing to do with MTK and Qualcomm. Any hardware platform has this problem. It is difficult for mobile phone manufacturers to participate in it if they do not make chips, so they can only schedule UI layer, CPU, GPU, big core and small core on the surface, and the granularity is very coarse, not fine.

Sometimes a multitask may only need to open a small instruction set in the kernel. When the performance and power consumption curve of all platforms reaches a certain node, the front is linear, the higher the performance, the higher the power consumption, and then to the bottleneck, the power consumption is particularly high, and the performance is improved a little bit. In the past, when you can't open the chipset, you will keep up with it, and you will find it is hot and stuck, which is the wrong call of resources.

This time, OPPO uses the chip scheduling strategy, so the run score of the Find X5 Pro test is improved by nearly 10%, and the power consumption can be reduced by 5% with "Arena of Valor".

On the question of "whether ColorOS has made relevant optimization preparations for the new form", Chen Xi told the media that there will certainly be a new form in the future, and ColorOS will also make some new experiences around the new form. OPPO hopes to create a lot of innovative experiences in products, interactions, and technologies at the tuyere of some opportunity points. It also hopes to lead these experiences, set some standards, and put forward some functions that bring unprecedented new experiences to consumers. On the issue of the new form, Li Jie also made a supplementary explanation: "whether it is one plus or OPPO equipment, the core is to solve several problems: first, to solve users' practical problems; second, to solve problems through some lightweight technology; third, to make some innovative attempts."

Explore 1-1 > 2 cooperation ways, and work with the industry to do a good job of the experience. Finally, it is about the topic of IoT and cars. The OPPO team also gave a clear answer to this part. OPPO's IoT proposition is clear-not to do everything, but to do the surrounding devices that are closely related to the user, such as tablets, watches, headphones, etc., so we naturally choose to work together.

With regard to IoT ecology, Li Jie gives an example. It is just like clothes. The shirts of this one are well made, the trousers of this one are well made, and the shoes of the other are particularly good. If you do all by yourself and put all these good experiences on your own devices, it will give users no choice. They will have to put up with that you just have well-made shoes and cannot buy a whole suit of clothes. In fact, this is not a particularly good experience. So we choose to work with the industry to do the experience well.

On the topic of smart cars, Li Jie also gave a clear reply: OPPO does not want to make cars directly, but only wants to work with car companies to make the user experience better in the ecology of getting off and mobile phones. On the other hand, OPPO didn't want to argue about who controlled the car in the past. It is exploring the cooperation mode of "1: 1 > 2", and selected some automobile cooperative manufacturers.

Li Jie said that the starting point of OPPO is the way of co-creation and integration, and the experience followed is that if it is more convenient to use in the car, according to the standards of the car, and if it is more convenient to use on the mobile phone, the two sides will communicate with each other. So communicating with families is very popular because there is no ideological dispute. At present, OPPO supports the largest number of car keys among all car manufacturers. 20% of the car companies in the domestic market support our car keys. Tesla and ideal we are the first Android cooperation. In addition, the entire Air VOOC system has been running on the car for several years, and now it has the largest coverage and the most advanced experience.

With regard to the intelligent cross-end system "Pantanal" released by OPPO, Li Jie said that the original intention of OPPO to be Pantanal is that users now have many different brands of devices, and if they just make mobile phones, many experiences want to do but can't do it. OPPO is homeopathic to solve these problems to do a middleware system, which is good for all aspects.
