How to understand Fedora Core 5 use desktop, many novices are not very clear about this, in order to help you solve this problem, the following small series will explain in detail for everyone, there are people who need this to learn, I hope you can gain something.

Fedora Core 5 Desktop Linux itself is the core part of this operating system, that is, the kernel of the operating system. The kernel is the program that performs the most basic operations. It is responsible for starting and terminating other programs (such as text editor programs), handling memory requests for hard disk access, network connection management, and so on.

GNOME 2.14 (or a release candidate) and KDE 3.5.1 are included in Fedora Core 5. The list below is a list of changes desktop users will notice.

gnome-power-manager

GNOME Power Manager is a session-level daemon in the GNOME desktop environment that simplifies power management for laptops and desktop systems. It leverages HAL (which provides a hardware abstraction layer) and DBUS (Inter Process Communication), written and maintained by Fedora Core 5 developers.

gnome-screensaver

The GNOME screensaver gives the screensaver and lock screen dialog a consistent look. fontconfig and shared-mime-info use memory optimization. They now use shared memory mapped caches to hold data.

Starting with GNOME 2.12, terminal options were removed from the desktop context menu. The nautilus-open-terminal package in the Fedora Extras repository provides additional functionality. You can install it with the following command:

su -c 'yum install nautilus-open-terminal'

In Fedora Core 5, only a few screensavers are installed by default. Other screensavers are unpleasant or can crash the graphics interface, especially some OpenGL animated screensavers, included in the xscreensaver-gl-extras package, when run on poorly supported graphics chips. To install more screensavers, run the command:

su -c 'yum install xscreensaver-extras xscreensaver-gl-extras'

Fedora Core 5 desktop explained above.
