Last year, Russian State Atomic Energy Company publicly invited bids for the construction of two floating nuclear power hulls to Asian shipyards, of which South Korea's KHAN Precision Industry offered US $325 million and Sichuan Honghua Oil Co., Ltd. bid US $248 million. In the end, Wilson (Nantong) heavy Industries won the bid at a price about 30 per cent below the maximum bid limit, with a winning price of US $226 million.

According to reports, the hull of Russia's first new-generation floating nuclear power plant is 140m long and 30m wide. The hull without equipment weighs 9549 tons, with equipment weighing 19088 tons and installed capacity of 106MW. It is worth mentioning that this is the first time a Chinese shipyard has built such a hull.

Under the contract agreement, Wilson heavy Industries is required to deliver the first hull (including the superstructure) by October 2, 2023, and Russia will complete the installation of subsequent facilities such as reactors. Wilson heavy Industries will deliver the second hull before February 2, 2024.

CTOnews.com learned that the Russian State Atomic Energy Company's "Lomonosov Academician (Academik Lomonosov)" was put into commercial operation in May last year. This is the world's first offshore floating nuclear power plant, built by St. Petersburg Shipyard and deployed in Pervek, Chukchi Autonomous region of the Russian far East. Its main function is to provide electricity for factories, cities and offshore natural gas and oil rigs in extremely remote areas of Russia.
