Twitter announced today that it will launch a much-anticipated new feature for paying users in the coming weeks, namely the "edit" button.

Twitter users have been asking Twitter for years to add a feature that allows tweets (Twitter messages) to be edited to correct errors such as spelling errors. But Twitter seems to ignore this, and despite launching a series of new products, such as newsletters, it has never satisfied users 'desire to modify tweets.

Twitter finally announced today that it will introduce an "edit" button for the first time, but only for paying users. Twitter said it would roll out an "edit" button in the coming weeks for $4.99-a-month "Twitter Blue" subscribers, allowing them to modify tweets several times within 30 minutes of posting.

Twitter will tag "edited" tweets, and others on Twitter can click on the tag to see previous versions of the tweet.

Prior to this, almost all other social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Reddit and Pinterest, allowed users to edit their published content.

When asked if the Edit button would eventually be available to all Twitter users, a Twitter spokeswoman said Twitter was testing the feature to anticipate some of the issues that might arise when it was made available to all users.
