CTOnews.com learned that China's manned Space Engineering Office previously said that China plans to launch China's first large space survey telescope next year to carry out wide-area survey observations, and will carry out cutting-edge scientific research on the formation and evolution of the structure of the universe, dark matter and dark energy, exoplanets and solar system celestial bodies, and is expected to achieve a number of major innovations.

At present, new progress has been made in the development of the initial sample of optical facilities for surveying the sky. The telescope is expected to be launched after the Chinese space station is completed.

As the optical module of the Chinese space station, the Survey Space Telescope will be equipped with a 2-meter optical system and a series of state-of-the-art detectors. The telescope is the size of a bus, stands three stories high and weighs more than ten tons. The survey space telescope is mainly divided into two parts, including the survey optical facilities and the survey platform.

In the stage of application and development of the space station, the scientific experimental cabinets arranged inside the space station and large-scale extravehicular loading facilities will also be used to carry out larger-scale space research experiments and new technology experiments. It mainly involves many fields, such as space life science and human body research, microgravity physics science, space astronomy and earth science, new aerospace technology and so on.

CTOnews.com learned that the Survey Space Telescope research facility will fly in the same orbit with the space station, carry out wide-area survey observations, and carry out cutting-edge scientific research on the formation and evolution of the structure of the universe, dark matter and dark energy, exoplanets and celestial bodies in the solar system.

According to China's manned space program, the survey space telescope is expected to be put into scientific operation before 2024, with a planned mission life of 10 years, which can be continuously extended through maintenance.

According to reports, China's survey telescope is similar to the Hubble Telescope in the United States, but many performance indicators are higher than the 32-year-old Hubble Telescope. The imaging quality and resolution of the survey telescope are similar to those of the Hubble telescope, but the field of view of the survey telescope is more than 300 times larger than that of Hubble, because the performance of the main mirror detector determines the performance of the telescope.

In addition to the main mirror, the survey telescope is also equipped with some back-end modules, including coronometer, terahertz, multi-channel imager and so on, through the joint work of these modules to achieve scientific goals. The optical facilities of the survey telescope are installed on an optical module platform, which flies in the same orbit with the space station of our country.

The survey telescope can not only survey the sky in a wide area, but also carry out extreme depth observation for specific targets, and can achieve extreme depth imaging observation of 400 square degrees.

Zhang Wei, a researcher at the Space Application Engineering and Technology Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that the performance index of the survey telescope is better than that of international advanced telescopes such as the Euclid Telescope and the Hubble Telescope.
