CTOnews.com, September 1 (Xinhua)-Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX) has won a new batch of manned space missions from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to carry out low Earth orbit (LEO) manned missions for the International Space Station (ISS).

On August 31, local time, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced a $1.4 billion contract with Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX).

CTOnews.com has learned that the SpaceX Dragon is currently the only spacecraft capable of sending astronauts from the United States to the space station, and the company is working with NASA to send another batch of astronauts into space in October. It is worth mentioning that this will be the first time that Russian astronauts have taken a US spaceship since the end of the space shuttle program.

NASA announced the announcement earlier today, and the agency has now paid $5 billion to SpaceX for crew flights under its Commercial crew Program (CCP) and Commercial crew capacity (CCtCap) programs.

As SpaceX wins the bid again, NASA is still waiting for Boeing to deliver its Starliner capsule to the International Space Station. The agency's original plan was to use two spacecraft to carry out "one master, one standby" and continuous flights. However, Boeing has yet to successfully send its capsule to the space laboratory.

At a news conference, NASA outlined that it had signed five additional contracts with SpaceX for international space station missions, which would ensure that they would all have access to the space lab by 2030.

At present, the International Space Station itself has a history of more than 20 years, and its operating life has been extended to 2030. SpaceX plans to take the International Space Station out of orbit in January 2031, and if those plans remain unchanged, NASA's latest mission will ensure that it provides transport services until the station is decommissioned.

NASA announced in its press release that the CCtCap expansion project, worth $1.4 billion, includes not only the cost of sending astronauts into space, but also other related activities and a full range of services. These activities include ground and in-orbit services, as well as the recovery of crew upon return, the provision of freight services for their journeys, the provision of lifeboats, and so on.
