CTOnews.com Sept. 1, Microsoft announced the launch of a new data center area in Qatar. The company says the new data center will create 36000 new jobs over the next five years and generate $18 billion in economic growth for the country.

Lana Khalaf, manager of Microsoft, said:

With its long history as an early adopter of technology, Qatar has fully adopted cloud solutions and revolutionized the industry to develop a new and advanced digital economy. Today's announcement will enable the country to bring these groundbreaking innovations to the world, demonstrate its position as a leader in the digital transformation, and consolidate Qatar's position as a global innovation center.

Like other countries in the Middle East, Qatar's economy is heavily dependent on natural gas and oil. Under the principle of "Don't put all your eggs in one basket", Qatar has decided to diversify its economy by 2030.

Microsoft says the new data center will help address the country's need for high-performance computing and stable use of Microsoft services. Starting today, these data centers can be used with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.

CTOnews.com learned that the State of Qatar (The State of Qatar) is located on the Qatari peninsula on the southwest bank of the Persian Gulf, bordering Saudi Arabia to the south. It covers an area of about 11521 square kilometers and has a population of 2.88 million, of which Qatari citizens account for about 15%. Foreigners are mainly from India, Pakistan and Southeast Asian countries. Arabic is the official language and the lingua franca is English.
